hi guys new to the site and needing you guys help if possible,took delivery of a jcw 28k on clock from mini dealer on tuesday and realy not happy.the car seems to be all over the road any camber in road it seems to have a mind of its own.and i,m not even on the throttle.it happens allso if i,m doing around 70 on duel around a slight bend and hit one of the road expansion joints they put in it realy wants to pull to the side bad.is there any one out there who knows what this might be i,ve driven some cars in my time but this takes the biscuit how could they deliver the car to us like this.so much for the 160 point inspection they surpose to do.
I'm guessing that you have Run Flats. If you do then any bump in the road will throw you off, nothing to worry about, nothing wrong with the car but if it really puts you off then consider changing to normal tyres and carry a compressor and a can of tyre weld in case you get a flat.
My mate had a Cooper Convertible with Run Flats and the first time I drove it, it felt like it was all over the place. Fortunately when I got mine it had regular tyres, even so, because they are so low profile I still get the jumping about when I go over something, but not as bad.
as previous post stated it is most likely the runflat tyres giving you this problem, and I can sympathise as it is very disconcerting and in my opinion could be dangerous, especially if you hit a small pothole on a corner.
are the tyres worn ? are they the original tyres ?
I would take it back to the dealer and explain the situation and they may change the tyres to non runflats which should make a difference.
Perfectly normal, for runflats.
They make the cars very squiggly and, hence, a handful to control. You do get used to it (otherwise known as holding on tight) however changing to normal tyres all but eliminates the problem. Then you only have the outrageous torque steer to manage and it's plain sailing. PS Strut brace will help sort the torque steer.
thanks for repies all,we have owned a mini with run flats and i dont think this is the issue i'm sure.sadly i was not able to test drive the car being 200 miles away..it is booked in to mini cardiff on tuesday so i hope they.ll sort it,i think its a front wish bone bush my self as when i brake and turn the wheele a little it wants to carry on turning in when my hands are off the wheel if that makes sence.and theres a slight knock to.most probably coused by the good old speed ramps.
I have a 2009 JCW convertible. I purchased it in Nov 2011 with 18k on the clock. I had similar issues after a few months of ownership. I also had some odd wear (sawtoothing) on a rear tyre. My dealer undertook the KDS wheel alignment and a check of the suspension. Since having the wheel alignment done, have had no more issues. But I do agree with the other posters that they JCW models are a little unruly.
well guys car just about made it to mini for a health check,snow realy did come down here in wales.any way mini phoned me up to say there was nothing wrong with steering or susspention but there was uneven tyre wear on front tyres so they,re putting new one's on for me tomorrow.if theres nothing wrong with the car why the hell is there uneven wear then i know many of you think its the run flats but i know theres a falt some where so any one know of a good spectialist i can have a independent inspection near cardiff.
hi guysjust got back from picking our mini up from dealer.not good as i said i knew there was some thing wrong with the car,when they changed the tyres they were unable to ballance them as there was buckles in them so some one who owned the car before me had lost the car at some time.i phoned the mini stealer and told them i want a full refund and they have agreed to pick the car up and refund our money.sadly that means i have to look again for weeks and weeks till i find one.
