England Expansion tank cap stuck shut!

Hi guys.
Newbie here with a very stupid and hopefully simple problem.

The coolant light came on the other day so I have bought some coolant gone out to top up the level to see if that would fix it but I just CAN NOT unscrew the expansion tank cap.

I have read of people having problems popping it off after unscrewing it but in my case it just won't budge! Have sprayed with wd40 and hit it with a small hammer but the damn thing won't move a bit.

I read about a rubber strap wrench??? But don't have one...

Any tips? Am I doing something wrong?

AM

What year model of Mini? Early One/Cooper have a flip up cap.
'Gentle' use of some mole/pipe grips should move it but be careful if its plastic as most caps/tanks are fragile.....

the coolant cap is stuck because it's sealed itself to the rubber seal in the cap..and it does take a bit of force to crack the seal..

If your hand is slipping on the cap, try using a rubber glove or a vinyl glove for better grip...
