United-States Brake/Stop Light Switch Replacement

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing what seem to be a common issue. It seems the brake lights on my 2003 Mini Cooper Base are stuck on. I have done a little research and have found this to be a common issue. I have ordered a diode and a brake light switch to replace first, in hopes that I won't have to replace the BC1 (body control module). However, I am having trouble finding instructions on how to replace the brake light switch or stop light switch as it is called by the mini dealership. Can anyone help me with this. Diode replacement seems fairly straight forward and I understand if it is the BC1 I will have to contact the mini dealership for reprogramming. So, I am only needing help installing the new brake switch.

Keep in mind I am a woman with basic car maintenance experience. However, I am familiar with installing car audio equipment so I am not completely inept and I am a fast, eager learner. Thanks in advance for all of your help!

My apologies. I didn't intend for the post to come across like that. I just wanted to be sure and note that although I am really quite capable, I have very little automotive mechanic experience and would need detailed instruction.
