Question R50 Cooper - Getrag 5spd - which gearbox oil please?!

Hi all,

I've a R50 Cooper, Getrag 5 spd 'box.

I need to change the gearbox oil, but have no clue as to what I should use.

I've searched high and low on forums, but too many answers and reasons to make head nor tail of.

What oil do I need to buy? Which oil makes the box silky smooth?

That's all I need to know really.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help.

Going to order Redline ATF D6 as this seems to be the stuff that matches BMW's specification for a 5speed Getrag on an R50 cooper.

Yeah these suggestion are better to change the gear box oil.I am a mechanic by profession and many times changing this oil in my Mini Cooper. But i used always a high quality for its perfection. You can get it from any automotive shop.If you want to know some internal about the cars model, engine number etc so visit vin decoder toyota. It helps you.

You can put in the 5-speed Getrag from the 2004-2005 models, but you will also
have to change a lot of other stuff - clutch, flywheel, mounts, axles, starter, clutch lines,
shifter and cables, etc. If you're going to do all that, you might as well go for a
Getrag 6 speed from the S - you have to change all of the above for that, too,
and although a 6-speed Getrag is more expensive than a 5-speed Getrag, with
all the extra stuff the bottom line isn't that much different proportionally.
If you do go for the 6-speed, get the later BKE(without LSD) or BKL (with LSD) 6-speed
from 7/2004-2006 as it has better gear ratios for the R50 than the earlier BKA one .

Also, check out this link (pdf article on the swap).
