Question Halfords Branded OIL (BMW Spec)

I have a JCW (R56), and as every JCW owner knows, these engines are oil thirsty.
I ordered 10x1 ltrs of the recommended Castrol 5W-30 in bulk, but noticed the other day that Halfords sell their own brand with the same spec BMW LL-04
at half the price, so was wondering on any thoughts about using this oil?

My thoughts would be to use it and change the oil more frequently, which then makes it more affordable.

I have been thinking using an oil cleaning agent to flush out the old and replenish with fresh oil. With the price of the BMW approved Castrol oil at 20 per ltr, this becomes an expensive option for interim oil changes .

Not sure also, if mixing this Halfords oil with the existing Castrol (as a top up) is recommended too?

Hi ya

Castrol edge fst 0w30 is what you need really, and on your r56 you should be changing the oil every 6000 miles

B&Q near me sell it for 13 a litter, when I by my oil from halfords I use a trade card takes a chunk off the 4lt price :-) ,

I used sea foam as a cleaning flushing agent, I put in 1/3 of a bottle and drive it for 100 mile before changing the oil, it helps keep the lifters and tensioners clean and de slugged.

Hope this helps
