DIY Power Steering Hose Replacement 450!!!

Just got back from the dealer after a check up and have been advised that my power steering hose is leaking (not badly apparently). Was told it was a big job to replace and then quoted 450!! Is this correct??? I wouldn't mind but I only now drive it twice a week. Its a 2008 Mini Cooper Sidewalk with 28,000 on the clock. Bought it at 15,000 miles and had so many problems in the first year (all sorted under warranty) - engine bracket split, roof leaking, air con failure to name a few. I just wondered if this is just normal for a mini of this age and mileage or did I get a lemon?? Also if anyone has had the hose work done and what you were charged. Is it worth going somewhere else i.e. non Mini dealer?

Thanks all, much appreciated.

Try a good recommended local independent garage, the hose is not difficult to replace and labour rate will be a lot cheaper.
If you give your approx. location someone may even be able to recommend an independent Mini specialist near you.
