United-Kingdom Clutch & Flywheel

Hi, This is my first ever thread, I have joined the forum to get advice on clutch & flywheel for my cooper s 2007. My local garage quoted me 1400.00 for parts and labor. He told me he was going to use LUK clutch and flywheel.

I though this was expensive so decided to search the net for the parts. I have come across bmfautoparts.com who are selling both the clutch kit @ 103.26 and Flywheel @ 378.46 inc VAT with only 5.99 postage for and LUK unit.

Does any one have an idea for the cost of labour? or if I can find the parts cheaper anywhere else.

Any help is much appreciated.

MINI charge around 110 an hour and BMW around 140 last time I asked.

BMW charged 850 to fit a new 2 oil seal in the diff, it was all labour that bumped up the cost, if you can do it yourself you'll save a fortune even if you have to buy a few tools to do the job.

How long does it take to replace a clutch? I've been given a number of another mechanic who just replacing clutches for a living. Going to see him tomorrow. I have bought the clutch and flywheel off bmfautoparts.com should have this tomorrow in time for the mechanics visit tomorrow. Ive also ordered the seal of them too they did a victor Rienz.

I would love to do this myself on the weekend, but the gearboxes look a little tricky. I can can do the basics like an oil change and replacing brakes when i have the time. Im a little annoyed as i paid little fortune to have the pads and discs replaced and now looking at bmfautoparts site I could have picked these up a lot cheaper for Mintex.

You live and learn.

Thank you for your help.
