More Coolant?

Hi,

i've had my mini for about 2 months and noticed today that after 1300 miles the coolant was quite low. Is it worth filling it backup or waiting until the next service?

Hello,

Top it up, and keep an eye on it.

Some people have reported coolant leaks, but almost always on the Cooper S. It was probably an air lock, but still worth keeping a check on.

Thanks Paul.

Any old coolant will do or anything special?

I think it gives the requirements in the manual, but any coolant from Halfords etc. should do.

If it drops again, take it to your dealer for a pressure test. My Cooper's coolant dropped a couple of times and it turned out to be just a pressure lock (bubble) but I sure felt better after they did a pressure test and took out the plugs to look for signs of fouling. It has now been months since they last topped it up and so far, knock on particle board, it is holding!

Mine dropped a month or two after delivery. I asked on here and others reported that it may have burped out an airbubble. The level then went back up a wee bit and then down again! It only dropped a tiny amount has never dropped below the min mark.

If it hasn't dropped below the minimum mark I would leave it as it is and keep an eye on it.
