Wheel Wax

Anyone know anything about this product? Supposedly it is a special wheel wax which is designed to clean and protect your wheels from brake dust, etc. Is it worth the money, or am I better off to just wax the wheels with the same wax I use on the body and clean them off everyu week or so?

Rain-X wheel protectant is quite good, but it's not a wax. Closer to a semi-permanent teflon clear-coat. Do a search, as I've posted on it. I'm still quite happy, but it is expensive. $7 bucks did about 6 applications... So half-way through the second application, I had to run out of another bottle.

Lasts for several months, brake dust hoses off with regular household water pressure.

Rain-X for windows works great, I didn't know it was available for wheels too. I'm going to try it.

Maybe the windows treatment works on painted wheels too???

No, the stuff for glass says not to get it on your paint. Since even the 'silver' rims are painted silver, it's a no-go.

Here's the stuff:

Spray it on whatever applicator is recommended then wipe it on the wheels, or you could take off the wheels and give them a thorough cleaning then apply the Rain-X.

Seems that might be a problem.

Not that I recall. Anyway, for the best results, I cleaned my rims to clean-room specifications, let them dry completely overnight, and applied the stuff liberally. It doesn't dry as fast as the label claims. I'm sure I got some on the rotors, as I wasn't considering this at the time (probably should have been though).

The application lasted about 4+ months. Brake dust accumulated less, but no miracle. The miracle was that it hosed right off with only water, no soap, no scrubbing.

I didn't notice any adverse braking problems due to overspray.

Actually, $7 is cheap for wheels that spray clean for 4 months. When I think about how much I spend for wheel cleaner, that is a bargain, not to mention my time. I am going to get some of that!
