Been trying to get this off whilst replacing the rear control arm bushes. Think they're original , i.e. 12 years old. Joints are horrendously corroded into the hub housing, what do people tend to do here? I think oxy heat will ruin the hub seals etc. Hammer and chisel action has resulted in bending one of the flanges slightly.
cheers. That, unfortunately, is the sole result of a few hours work to try and get the things out. Wish the person before me had used some copper grease!
Can't you just run a bit of heat across the bottom with a small gas pen(don't know the real name) only small + look like a pen. Then spray with W.D. than hammer and chisel down...after all your gonna be changing it??
I've done loads of these and they do come off but you have to break the rust off between the joints. Now that you have one edge off you can continue to force the gap open further along the ball joint. I use a cold chisel and after a few minutes they usually pop off. Once off give the hole a rub down with some course sand paper and when refitting apply some copper grease to the backside of the new ball joint
