Red Cooper Shattered foglight.

Has anyone else experieced a shattered factory foglight?
The glass/plastic lens and the bulb are destroyed.
I know the bulb is a standard H7 but has anyone tried putting in a new lens? I'd hate to have to let the dealer install this simple part as I know it would cost a small fortune.

Any advice?

This just happened to one of my car's foglights yesterday.

I didn't see the stone hit, but I noticed the cracked lens before I washed the car. All of my lens glass is shattered, but still mostly intact so I just put some clear box-sealing tape over the glass to keep the glass in place until I can replace the lens.

I've got to wait until the a local MINI dealer opens (within a week or two) and then I'll order a replacement foglamp. I know fitting a replacment foglamp unit (lens is not separate) will involve removing the front bumper, but I think it is an otherwise pretty straightforward job. Unbolt the old one, bolt in the new one. I'm going to do a Search on this and I'll post a link to what I find here.

Because I now realize how easy it is to experience stone damage on the front of my MINI, today I ordered the plastic protection film for my headlamps and turnsignals from a MINI supplier. It makes me wonder why they don't also include film covers for the foglamps in the 4-piece kit?

Thanks for the link. Excellent resource.
From the looks of this, the entire foglight assembly is just one part. I may not be able to get just the lens and the lens may not even be replacable. Bad news.

I may take it apart and see if i can even put a replacement lens in there. I know I can get one made at a local glass shop.

I thought about the plastic protector film they make for the bonnet and headlights. It may have saved the bulb in my case, but I think the lens would still have been shattered.

Castrol GTX? Maybe that's why its in the picture. Ebay will never cease to puzzle me. My guess is they wanted the weight savings. Still looks like a stellar deal given how much they're bound to cost from the dealer.

Bruce: If you want the parts, you can always order them from a dealer who will deliver, like classic, up here in non-scenic OH. As its been mentioned, they'll even discount off MSRP if you ask for the mini cooper online discount. http://www.driveclassic.com/index.asp

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

Thanks for the tip stryder!

(It's sort of an unfortunate choice of dealership name - always makes me think of a 'classic Mini' 1959-2000 version )

If you busted your fog lights out, you should just get some tubing and run brake ducts.
