If you have the space, tools and ability or a good mate (helpful as a second pair of hands) or you good mate has the space, tools and ability, DIY, its a 2 day job the first time around and not that difficult.
There are plenty of tips online and Modmini has a good video for both Cooper and Cooper S if you have a Gen1, Gen 2 isn't that much different except you may have a self adjusting clutch so you will need a SAC toolkit and the cam locking kit (for the tool to lock the crank in position) to remove and re install the clutch pressure plate.
Either Gen 1 or Gen 2, the cost of any special tools are more than offset by the savings in labour costs as compared to having a dealership do the work.
Also, buy a decent manual, half the fun in these cars is fixing them yourself and saving a fortune in labour costs.
