Unhappy Bug Splat removal

Made the mistake of taking Sarah, our silver MINI to Oxford for the factory tour last week. Should have known better really, all that Med-style southern weather has got every bug in Oxfordshire into the air and impacted onto Sarah's front at, er 70mph. Should have stuck to the iced insects we have here up in the Pennines.

Anyhow problem is, they're a pain to shift; tried a spray from Halfords but it doesn't seem to work (*bug shifter) - do I need to leave it on for a while? I found a thread suggesting toothbrushes as a solution, but will they scratch the paintwork?

I'm sure everyone with a silver MINI has been here or is going to be here very soon, would be good to get some advice.

Cheers,
Lee.

There is a holts prodcut call Mixra (or sommat like that.
Its a windscreen cleaner)

I used it on my silver company car when I had it.
it worked a treat.

I gave it a quick polish afterwards, just to make sure no damage could be or was done.

Lee - High Foam Tar SHifter from Halfords always seems to work well for me and we splat them legally at 100mph - Yes you should leave it 30 secs or so for easiest life

I have found that car soap, water, a wash mitt and a little wiping has done the trick. But, then again these are only 70mph soft American bugs.

Lee, err.. Cowley is not in the South from the perspective of the bulk of the UK population (as in southern style weather). Dorset is in the South.

Well, yes, but it's south to the bulk of the population that matter.... "Gan canny, bonny lad"

I'll try the stuff on for a bit longer (it's Halfords bug & tar shifter -same as Racer suggests? Will have to check) and once sorted apply some decent wax- not sure my regime of TurtleWax washing is really the best approach here...

indiblue coloured

You need some kind of filter that only allows blue bottles through, they're quite big too so should cover larger chips

Thanks to everyone for the help, I'll let you know how I get on. Once the torrential rain outside stops...

Bugs ....

Try this it works..
Take a towel, soak it in water / car detergent solution place the towel over the area that is pounced with bugs. leave it on for an half hour, keeping the towel realy wet.
wash the affect area ,,,....bugs are gone.
Try it it works

Well, the toothbrush has come up trumps. There's a few marks on the leading edge of the roof, but I'll have to probably clear it all off with something and wax properly, but the main fly debris is now gone!

Thanks all,
Lee.

Be glad you don't have to put up with the Florida Love Bugs. Twice a year these little devils come out and congragate around the roads. Seems they are attracted to the exhaust fumes. Anyway, they have a very high acid content that the birds won't even touch. If you don't wash them off every day or so, they will literally eat right into the paint. Wax will help but it's no match to the acid if they aren't cleaned off quickly.

Use the turtle wax stuff, black spray on bottle, but a right mess to get off your paint work if it spills over.
