Removing wax off of Black Wheel trim...

Ok so Im a jackass and got a bit of "overbuff" onto the plastic trim. Im having problems removing it. My nextdoor neighboor told me I should use gasoline... Uh... NO. I was hoping that someone with an IQ over 85 could tell me a decent way to remove this without damaging the trim. TIA

Toothbrush with some hand soap/ washing up liquid.

I use meguiars trrim detailer - this also removes the wax and leaves them looking silky!

I tried autoglym bumper stuff, armour all, soap, etc. with
only temporary improvement,
then I took the plunge and used peanut butter on a paper
towel - rubbed it in, rubbed it off with a towel.
Hey, it worked great!

Yeah it's actually Meguiars wax that is on the trim. I think Ill put peanut butter in the same category as gasoline... only for different reasons.

You know when you turn up to first pick up your car and the tyres and all the black bits are gleeming? I've got the real deal stuff from my dealer. Ask them for it

No worries Max. Just use a cloth for the black plastic, and a smallish paint brush to put it round the tyres. I love mine when I clean it, it comes up like the showroom

Back to Black here. It's a bit hit-and-miss, but the second application always nails it if the first doesn't.

Autoglym bumper stuff does it for me. Numpty local dealer (no names mentioned: Lind) delivered my gf's cooper with the black plastic looking very grey. We collected in pouring rain, so didn't notice it. Out comes the sun the next day and...D'oh. Got the Autoglym stuff and gave it a going over. Takes the polish off and protects. Arm intensive though..!!!

EB/W Cooper S, leather, 16" x-lites, climate, sunroof, heated seats, MFSW, Alpine CD. Whalen Shifter, Bonnet stripes, tints all round. Normally to be found in the outside lane of the M20.

Sorry, I reckon you're all wrong

I have back to black, but I found that the polish shines back at me a little while after application.

I found that cleaning the polish off with a rag covered in turps actually get it off. Just get a rag, dip it in turps, rub the thing till it's gone, and then WASH the residue off with soap and water. Then use your back to black, and the polich is gone for good

Sorry mate!

Mineral turpentine is the ful name of the stuff. It's a commonly used paint thinner for enamels. Unlike some other thinners though, it won't dissolve the plastic (be very careful about that)

just wondering how excatly is the steps to use peanut butter to clean the wax off the wheel trim. i did a search, and have found that it is suppose to be first apply the peanut butter, then a wash, then some kind of "BACK to black" stuff. right??
and 1 question, how should i apply the peanut onto the wheel trim and etc??? and if i do touch the paint with peanut butter by accident it shouldn't harm the paint right??
thanks

05 PW/B chilli. finally here.

I've always found a little Zippo lighter fluid cleans just about everything. Sort of a redneck answer, right up there with gasoline and turp. But I find it to be a good solvent and not too oily. It also removes crayon. (You don't want to know...)
