Question Front windscreen, bug splats!!

Having driven 400 motorway miles yeaterday in my cooper s(yes i can still walk, JUST!), got out last night barely being able to see out the front due to the number of dead insects splated across the windscreen! Tryed sprying the screen a number of times with the washers and wipers to no avail! They dont remove the splats ATALL, and 'No' the wipers arent old the car is 5 months old!

Think it may be due to the windscreens angle of installation!?

Surely this should no be the case due to raod safety!

Any1 else experienced this?

Here in Canada there are summer and winter formulations of windshield wiper fluid and the summer formulations have bug dissolving agents. Are there similar products available in your area?

No there isn't but there should be..... there seem to be more bugs out there these days, and I agree the wipers/washers don't remove them well at all. Just this moring I had to get a sponge and just was my front screen before setting out to work....

I found that regular applications of Rain-X (or similar products) added a slickness to the windscreen that made bug splatters easier to clean off. It's not a perfect solution, but it does go some way to mitigating the problem.

When washing a splattered car, I always apply a little bit of Mothers Trigger wash to the worst areas and let it sit for a couple of minutes before I really get down to the nitty-gritty of washing. The pre-wash helps lift the worst of the bug and bird residue.

I find Autoglym's Fast Glass to be the best windscreen fluid. It gets everything off quickly and easily and won't leave smears at all.

You can buy proprietary insect removing foam from Halfords. Spray on, leave for 30 secs and then use your washers/wipers to finish off.

Also I carry a insect pad (sponge with webbing) in a small tupperware container in the car.

I'll second the foam from halfords, holts mixra I think it's called. When washing, the sponge that looks like it's in a string vest is excellent. I got an amazing amount of bugs on my 12 hour 90mph+ thrash up from Spain, but noticed that in the French service stations off the motorway, they've ALL got squeegees and water to sort the bugs.... Trouble is if we had them in Blighty, some little t*sser would have them away no doubt.... Grrr...!!!

EB/W Cooper S, leather, 16" x-lites, climate, sunroof, heated seats, MFSW, Alpine CD. Whalen Shifter, Bonnet stripes, tints all round. Normally to be found in the outside lane of the M20.

Hubby says he's never been able to get bugs off with just the windshield wipers & solution (we don't have our MINI yet, so it's not just the MINI, it's every car he's driven). We usually just wash with the squeegee at the gas station and that works okay with some elbow grease, but then all gas stations in here in the states have those (I never would have thought about them not having them!). Of course, our bugs might be formulated differently.

United-Kingdom Sponge in a string vest!

Going back to the bug removal, and using a sponge in a string vest I have found a FREE alternative!!

In the UK we get these little string bags for washing machine tablets. I fold the sponge in half, and pop it into the bag when I need to do the front paint and windscreen. Works a treat.

Roll on September and collection of my new MINI - I want to splat it with bugs...
