United-Kingdom Went to book the S for its first service and was told.

This year we're taking the car to Euro Disney in 11 days time so I thought we'd better get the car serviced as its only got a thousand miles before its due for its 1st one,but was told by the dealer that if there is more than 700 miles before the service is due it will not fall under TLC and that I would have to pay for it has anyone one else been told this.

I have been told that 1000 miles either side would be fine. I tolk mine in with 650 left to go and that was no problem.

There have been quite a few threads about this before so try a search but I would contact your dealer again and tell them that it should be 1000 each way. If they wont do it, find your next closest dealer.

Hope that helps

Definitely shop around with the dealers. I had some other work to be done on mine (knocked the plastic cover off one of the side mirrors), and they did my first service even though I was over 1200 miles in front of it (I didn't have to ask, they offered). Other dealers seem to be sticking hard to the 1000 mile buffer.

Exactly the same thing happened to me a fortnight ago. Informed dealer I was driving to Switzerland and 1st service was due in 900 miles, could they do it before I left ? NO!
I was informed that I had 500 miles either above or below the 900 miles but couldn't get it done before! i was also told that if I exeeded this then my TLC would not be valid & I would have to pay.
After much hassle they agreed to service the car early, pathetic or what!

The rule from BMW is the car must be serviced within 1000 miles of the light coming on and will not need servicing until 1000 miles or less is left on the counter to be valid for TLC as far as I'm aware.

It was acceptable in the 80's

I was told plus or minus 1000 miles, and had it done with minus 280 miles on the countdown due to a busy dealer.

The answer is, will your trip be more than 1900 miles or so? Or find another dealer close by which will say + - 1000 miles.

PS If you run it to -1000 miles each time, thats an additional 5000 miles free servicing!

........................and my dealer told me it was strictly 500 miles either way!
The point is, if you have the courtesy to inform the dealership that this mileage will be exeeded due to long planned journeys, i.e. a holiday, then they should have some flexibility . I'm damned if I have to find a MINI dealer on my holidays to comply with their beurocratic nonsense.......................................... ............there I've had my say!!!!

Looks like it really varies from dealer to dealer. I was told when I had mine done that they will do it within a 500 mile window.

This appears to be too true with everything between dealers, I've found a variation of £200 in having aero side skirts fitted between dealers in Yorkshire and the one in Northampton, totall nuts!

I e-mailed MINI Customer Services and asked if it was OK to book my car in with 600-700 Miles remaining on the service indicator and use the TLC pack and they said no problem at all.

Had my MINI One in for its first oil service today with 225 miles remaining on the service indicator. The service desk confirmed you can book your car in for its service within 1000 miles remaining on the indicator.
Asked if they would change the brake fluid early and the answer was 'No'.
