does it matter if you get these products on the paint work?

Bumper Care doesn't, according to Autoglym.

Just to second that the green gloop from AutoGlym (Bumper Care) is excellent.

Once again, I'll recommend black shoe polish - the liquid kind with the dauber affixed to the bottle. Easy on, covers all the wax marks permanently. A nice coat of 303 on top, and your trim will absolutely shine.

Remember that you don't just want to cover up the wax on the black trim. You want to remove it prior to installing any protectant. To do so I prefer an eraser, it won't leave any residue and if it does happen to leave a little it is easily washed offer with water. Plus using an eraser won't cause any harm to the wax on your car whereas some other methods will. Additionally, when choosing a protectant you don't want it to be greatly silicone based - over time it will become a little white. Lastly when applying your protectant first apply to a dedicated small 100% cotton towel. Preferrably though use a small sponge - high quality, may be found in circular shapes - to avoid misplacing the protectant anywhere you don't want it. Oh yeah, I almost forgot when searching for a quality protectant, consider yourself lucky if you locate one that states to provide UV protection. At the moment I can't recall what I use, as my supply depleted when it was last used.

I've been meaning to recommend this to everyone. Using a sponge is one of the best things I've discovered. Makes it easier to control where the dressing goes and the amount you apply.

Sorry to the US chaps but we can't get 303 over here!

I use meguairs trim detailer first coat removes all marks and make it look nice - second coat makes them look very glossy!

I'm using the Autoglym stuff and although the results are pretty good I find it a bit of a pain to use. If you are not careful to wipe off all excess I find a week after applying you can have a black sticky mess along the edges on your paintwork where grime has combined with it.

In the past have found the spray versions don't last very long. Think I'll try the Meguiars stuff next.

It is important to protect these bits though. If you don't after a few years they turn a horrible grey/brown colour.

One word of caution. If you use anything silicon based on the black wheel arches and trim, you can forget about painting those pieces in the future as the silicon soaks into the vinyl.
