Solution For Cleaning Black Exterior Trim

Had some wax over-run (sloppy application by yours truly) on the black trim pieces. FWIW, it was Meguire's Gold Class. Anyway, couldn't wash it off with regular stuff. Tried Mother's Plastic Cleaner. Still no luck. Was ready to try Dawn dishwahing liquid, when a friend said he had just the stuff for me. He said it was an old school product and he ahd been using it for a long time.

Well he wasn't kidding. Went over his place and he applied a few coats of Stoner Trim Shine spray and like magic the white wax marks disappeared. No wiping, no elbow grease. Just gone. Not only that, it also markedly improves the look of the trim. Darker, with a slight shine. The product seems to be a light oil based compound. Yet it is not oily to the touch. Nor does it seem to stain clothing.

As you can tell, I'm sold. These are the same people that make Invisible Glass. I see there is a whole grab bag of other products on their web site. Has anyone had any experience with some of the other things they sell?

Another great product is available at BMW dealers: "Gummipfledge" (translated means "rubber car" in German). It comes in a toothpaste-type tube with a sponge applicator build-in. Now, this stuff is more for rubber trim than plastic trim, but I thought I'd mention it. You can save your rubber seals and keep them fresh for many years to come by using this stuff a couple times a year.

My MCS windows and doors froze solid last winter. Could not open the doors or windows after the first harsh snow/freezing rain. After they thawed I put the gummipfledge on the door and window rubber/gaskets to solve the problem. It's great stuff. Highly recommend using it prior to the first freeze.

I just use mineral turpentine You have to wash it off immediately, and then put a product like back to black over the plastic

The other cool thing is it is so cheap it's nearly free

I think it was $7...and the tube should last for at least a couple years.

Yes my hubby has some of this the only think I don't like about it is the shine, personally I think it makes the car look a little old fashioned. If its the same it can be used on the inside too, but as I say I just don't like the shine I prefer the matt.
