Around here most dealers are cheaper than my local one for Inspection I. It seems the reason is, my dealer wants to service the brakes (clean and lube the calipers, etc.) and change the brake fluid while the others do not.
Reading the list Piglick posted a long time ago
http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...e+fluid+change and in my MINI's service booklet, it appears to me that the brake service indicator is shown or 2 years max, so unless it is at the indicator, they shouldn't change it yet ('just' 17 months on the car, probably 18 by the time I take it in for the inspection) -- I've never been able to get the brake service indicator to show up so I wonder if I need to come in early?
Also reading those lists, it seems to me that the brakes are serviced ONLY if the pads are replaced. If they aren't in need of replacement, it appears as though they should be left. Is this true? Does this make sense? Wouldn't they of course clean and lube the calipers if they changed the pads? Do MINIs' disc brakes require periodic servicing? The BMW's seem to and since these are essentially 3-series brakes, is this a good idea?
My local dealer isn't ripping anyone off, they're just doing more for inspection I than the other places but I'm wondering if it is worth it to pay for the extra work (an extra hour or two of labour for the brake servicing, fluid change and bleeding, bedding in, etc.)?
Of those who've had inspection I performed, were your brakes serviced? Fluid changed?
