| A good FAQ link about gasoline/petrol and octane/RON Of course, it has to be a Canadian link!!: http://www.petrocanada.ca/eng/prodserv/fuels/6823.htm I like how it explains the difference between the octane rating used in North America and the RON rating used in the UK and Europe. Obviously, PetroCanada is making a pitch for it's own products, and why you should use higher (and more expensive) rated gasoline/petrol. At least they give some interesting reasons for doing so. What I find interesting is their assertion that higher octane does NOT improve fuel economy, one would tend to think otherwise. Which is good to know, I'm sure many of us have put higher octane gas than is necessary thinking we will get better fuel economy!!! They give some solid, common sense tips as to how to improve fuel economy, but I must say it would be too difficult to drive a MINI with 'smooth steady acceleration'!!!! |
