Car Covers

With winter getting closer those of us that have not got garages might need the all important car cover, my question is what one is best suited for the coming winter?

my personal favorite are the generic oversize car covers.
these work really well, because since they are not a tight fit, you have no chance of scratching the car when you put them on or take it off. i have oversized covers for all my cars, and imo they are the best kind.

they are cheap as well, about 50 dollars at costco. with a car cover, california duster, and meguairs quick detail spray one can go about 3-4 months wtihout washing thier cars, and it still looks like it did when you got it out of the dealership.

I have the Duravent Car Cover from Moss Mini. It cost about £55. I only got it as I had to go back out to Iraq in the summer for 3 months and the car was parked outside for the duration. However It worked well.

I did find it bent the Radio Antenna, and wouldn't leave it on next time, but I had a replacement anyway. It was a very good fit with an elasticated skirt so doesn't blow around. You can use a cable lock with it too.

I find folding up into the centre of the roof the easiest way to fit it as it can just be rolled down over the car.

I don't use it on a day to day basis but if the car were to be laid up for week or so I would definately use it.

It can be found on Moss's website here.

I would NOT recommend a loose fitting car cover if you're parking the car outside in windy conditions. All that flapping is going to be abrasive to your paint.

The type of cover you chose depends on what type of enivornment the car will be parked. There are links in the FAQ on car covers that can help you decide which one is best for you:

I choose the CoverCraft Weathershield which is made of light umbrella-like material.

I use a Kimberly Clark Evolution IV fabric car cover, tight custom made fit for the S and no scratching -so far- as the inside is flannel like and soft. And the probiscus for the antenna came with a grommet, so you can stick the antenna out. Cost was about $120US. They all seem to come from one place, so shop around for the best price.

Early is on time; On time is late.

Probably go for the Stormshield cover from minispares, sounds a good winter cover and Simons a mini2er...
