Question 25,000 Service Due Early

Hello, sorry if this has been covered couldn't find anything in the search results.

I have a 2001 Cooper it is currently on 19000 miles and the service indicator is reading out 1500 until the service - 25000 mile service due at 20500??

When I asked at the dealer they said it is becuase of the low mileage of the car and "the way it has been driven!" (I admit i drive it hard but I don't treat it that badly)

Has anyone else had a service this early or is this normal

As always thanks for any help

it's normal.

There is a lot more to the service interval then driving 'hard' or 'soft'. If you do more short trips, spend more time idling (warming the car up in winter perhaps), or frequently find yourself in stop and go traffic your interval will also shorten. Have a combination of these things and it will shorten even more.

Thanks GMINI, my trip to work is about 8 miles tops each way, This helps explain it.

According to my MINI, the 25K mile service for my car won't happen until 29K miles. I drive 15 miles each way to work and I do put my foot in it often. So it looks like the shorter distance perhaps doesn't fully heat the oil up enough to burn off all the contaminants?
