| See you in my rear view!! | Wheel cleaning product review.... Hey peeps! Well as I bought new wheels I thought it only fair to my beloved that I buy new wheel cleaning and care products. So I bought wheel cleaner, brake dust barrier and tyre gel. These are not the most expensive products (about £5 per product) but I have used these types products for the past two years and have worked very well. Wheel Cleaner: "Williams Alloy Wheel Cleaner" from Halfords. Similar to Halfords own product which is also very good. Sprays on in a foam and left for about a minute and sprayed off works a treat! Finished off with a paper towel to dry and get all little bits of brake dust. When the wheels are dry apply the brake dust barrier... Brake dust barrier: "Turtle Wax Brake Dust Barrier" from Halfords. This is a product I have always used on my and I have found is a great product. It is sprayed on in a mist an wiped over with a cloth and left wet for a few mins to slightly evaporate. I have foud it is better to wipe of excess moisture with a paper towel. It leaves the wheels feeling very 'soft' and shiney and smooth. It contains a wax and so water runs off and dirt wipes off or washes off very easily after application. I have also heard that regular car polish is very good to wipe onto alloys as this will give the same effect of a smooth appearance and ease of cleaning.Once the brake dust barrier has been applied make sure that the tyre is completely dry.... Tyre gel: "Turtle Wax Tyre Gel" from Halfords This is the first time I have used this type of product. I have used various Tyre Foam Shine and Back to Black and also Wet and Black but this gel is the best of the lot. Although claimed to be a gel it is more of a cream. Only to be used when the tyre is completely dry, it is applied to a soft cloth and then rubbed onto the tyre. It doesnt leave that wet look that lasts about 2 hours but it does make the tyres a lot darker and it lasts. I did my tyres a week ago and they still look good! The previous products I have used have only lasted a small time. The unofficial advice with all tyre blackening products is that the more you use, the darker it will look. Therefore inevitably this product doesnt often last very long, but it looks good! ![]() Also, although it is tyre gel it has worked very very well on the plastic trim. I used to use spray on "Wet & Black" but this would leave spots on the plastic and other products have left smears where as this gel was applied with ease and went a long way on the plastic. Once you have done all of the wheels you can almost go around the whole car's plastic with the excess left on the cloth you have used! Ok, so thats my review. By the way, i am in no way affiliated with any of the above manufacturers of car cleaning products but have simply bought them and like them! Jones! ![]() 210bhp JCW MINI Cooper S (S950) |
