Unhappy Scratched Bumper - what to do?

I stupidly misjudged the entrance to a driveway and scraped the corner of my front bumper on the stone gate-post.

Its now got about 10 scrapes in a row through to the plastic...

What should I do? They're pretty obvious... but I don't feel like spending Ģ600 getting it sorted!

Why are bumpers no good at bumping any more!

why has the whole worlds cars bodycolored bumpers ?
I live in the passenger zone and there are
only small parking places.
Thats the only reason I havenīt ordered cromelines at the bumpers.

Try it with an original Color-Stick from BMW
and after a few days polish the repaired scratches

firstly sorry to hear about your bumper!
go get your self a very very fine model paint brush and order the touch up paint from your dealer. paint on the paint layer buy layer, do this buy doing it over a period of time, i mean days, build the paint up higher than the paint on the bumper then t cut the raised paint back to the same hight as the rest of the paint on the bumper do not t cut untill the paint is properly dry leave it another day to dry other wise it will smug over the rest of the bumper. this is the best way to get a good result baring in mind it will never be perfict.... just take your time!!

i hope that you can understand this im not the best at explaining things in text!

If you could take a picture, at an angle, it would help diagnoses.

If it's anything like the plastic bumper on our Integra or Sunfire, here's what I did.

The scrape left gouges and fluffy plastic debris. I cut the debris off with a sharp razorblade flush to the bumper. Wet sanded the area with very fine automotive sandpaper, just to feather the paint nearest the affected area. Filled in the grooves with some autobody filler. Sanded again. Masked off the area, and painted it with aerosol touch up paint. About 5 very thin coats (but I'm picky) and then about a month later, I used a rubbing compound and a random orbit polisher, followed by polishing compound with the same machine. (I rented it).

The 'fix' on the Integra lasted years, and only now about 11 years later, the repaired area oxidizes faster than the rest of the car. I have to keep it waxed, then it looks fine - invisible really.

A small autobody garage will also do a touch-up repair for you. No need to buy a whole new bumper. It can be D-I-Y, but requires patience, and a very still day without wind.

Chilli Red/White Cooper S, Sport Pack & Sunroof. Delivered June 12th, 2002!

Thanks for your input guys.

I got a can of BRG paint and a can of lacquer paint from my dealers - 7 pounds - they were unable to supply anything other than aerosols!
Bought a little modelling brush as suggested and have been painting in the lines with the paint - so far its a dramatic improvement - at least its now all green! - you have to be close to notice it now, I'll keep doing coats and see what happens.
