Question Removing Checkered Roof Stickers?

Yo People,

Just wondered if any of you guys had any experience in removing stickers from cars?

I've recently taken the chequered roof off my car. However, where the edge of the stickers where it seems to have left a sort of residue. It comes off if you use the edge of your nail, however this would be very time consuming to remove all the stuff from the roof this way.

So does anyone have any cool tricks to get it off?

Cheers all

Most likely a buildup of wax, vinyl stick etc. Try a good de-waxing soap like Dawn with hot water, if that does not do it use a solvent that wont attack the paint.

Using the Dawn soap will fully dewax your MINI (after a couple of applications). I usually do this once or twice a year when I have the afternoon free to do a thorough detailing of the car. After the hot water / Dawn wash I always apply a couple of coats of wax immediately.

Wax your wheels too, easier to get the hot molten bits of brake dust off too.

You could also try some "rubbing alcohol" from the chemist/pharmacy. This is isopropyl alcohol, won't do any damage to your car's surface ( I use it professionally) but will eat up wax and grime. Good luck.

And if none of the above work you may want to invest in a clay bar, do a thorough scrape of the car.

Have you done it yet? If so, how'd it come out?

use a very soft cloth, lint free if you have one and some ordinary car wax...anything with alcohol in...except whisky or beer!!!

if it is really hard use a cloth with some unleaded on...you will need to wax the area afterwards though

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

I finally got around to doing the car today. I first gave the car a good clean, then i used a soft clean cloth with some autoglym polish. After two hours of hard work all the remains of the stickers are off. No more marks, no more lines, just a perfect shining car.

Just to add a recipe.

I install many checkered flags each week and have also removed 3 roofs. In all cases, I used Goo Gone to remove the residues with no effort.

After completely removing the residue, I recommend waxing the paint.

Cheers!!
