Hi, Randoph

I asked my dealer about this when they fitted our bonnet stripes and he told me that you can wax them and clean them in the same way you would with the paintwork. (They are OK in car washes, too if you want to use one)

It seems to be working so far.

My dealer claims they do fine in a carwash. I haven't confirmed this; so far my baby has only been handwashed so I can't say first hand.

This sounds nasty. Are they permanent swirls (ie etched into the vinyl ) or can they be polished out?

I never use the nylon brush type carwash but locally we have a soft cloth car wash which has cloth strips which wipe from side to side as the car goes through. Is this likely to be OK or should I avoid that too?

Go easy round the edges! There is a tendancy to accumulate a powdery build-up at the edges.

I meant on the paintwork, not the vinyl! Look at cars washed in car washes (esp metallic) compared to those washed properly by hand, you can usually see a huge difference.

Thats for stripping wax, isn't it?

I mean that the very edge of the stripe decal can accumulate the powdery build-up since, being a decal, it is raised from the surface of the paint.

This is particularly unsightly since most MINI's bonnet stripes have a black edge. The best way I know of to remove it is to GENTLY run your fingernail, COVERED IN A THIN T-SHIRT MATERIAL, along the edge of the stripe.

PS.....WhoooHoooo!!!! this is post # 100. A milestone! I'll soon be catching up to Paul

Sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick. Yes, I agree with you entirely.

What I was trying to say was that if you did choose to use a car wash then the stripes would still be on the car when you came out.

I have been using the Mini branded wax polish and no problem on the stripes. It gives a pretty good shine too and smells of oranges if anyone is interested. What am I saying. I must get out more.

PLEASE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR MINI NEVER TAKE IT THROUGH THE CAR WASH....
IT DOESN`T MATTER IF THERE BRUSHES OR CLOTHES,BECAUSE YOUR CAR IF IT IS DIRTY WILL HAVE MINUTE BITS OF DIRT AND GRIT ETC,SO WHEN YOU TAKE IT THROUGH THE CAR WASH IT RUBS THAT INTO THE PAINTWORK AND HENSE LEAVES SMALL SWIRLS AND SCRATCHES ALL OVER IT AND EVENTUALLY THE PAINTWORK WILL LOOK HAZEY AND VERY TIRED,
TAKE IT FROM THE PRO`s, I RUN A CAR VALETING SERVICE MYSELF SO WE NO ONLY TOO WELL WAT DAMAGE CAR WASHES DO AND THE TROUBLE IT IS GETTING THE SCRATCHES OUT..! ALSO IT WILL LEAVE SWIRLS IN THE STIPES TO A EGREE TOO.
IF YOU WANT ANY MORE ADVICE ON ANY VALETING ISSUE`S PLEASE DONT HESITATE TO ASK US, HAPPY MOTORING FROM TONY ,WHO`s VERY HAPPY CAUSE GOT HIS COOPER S ON SATURDAY
