| Twixys Rubber Ducky | Hi I have now had my Cooper S for 8 weeks. I have just checked my oil, but the dipstick just has a yellow end to it (approx 1 inch long) and I couldn't see any Min or Max lines - does anyone know where the Min / Max indications are?? I have checked in the manual, but could only find an explanation of the One / Cooper dipsticks. Thanks ![]() |

Offline | We had a long discussion on the useless design of the oil dipstick. You'll see the dipstick has a yellow fibreglass end piece and this has a hatched design on it. The oil should be at the top of the hatches, if it is below the bottom of the hatches you need to top up. Clean oil doesn't show up very well so you will need to look closely. I'm sure someone else can come up with a better description then hatched design but it's near the end of a long day for me. ![]() Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs |

Offline | Try this... I have an Alfa-Roméo Spider that has that same hatched pattern on the dipstick and to help see the oil level especially when the oil is clean I drilled a series of small holes in the hatched part of the dipstick. I drilled 5 holes in all. The oil makes like a small bubble in the hole and stays there instead of disappearing on the dipstick. Makes it very easy to see the oil level... |

Offline | oil dip stick reading confusion i was doing my first oil change(3000km) in friend`s mechanical service centre, however when i am checking the oil dip stick today, i found that the oil level up to the "max" notch(there is two notches "min" and "max"on the stick, also a hatch area between them , in my case)....i thought mine was overfilled, therefore i call my dealer and ask them, they told me that it shouldn`t over the hatching area, however i bring my cooper to another mechanic to pump out some, but they said the oil level is perfect, unless it is over the "max" notch.....i am just so confuse abt this.....who should i trust......pls help...... |
