| MINI2 Regular | Dealer damage Hi all is it just me? but after my cooper has been in for various minor faults (rattles etc) i seem to always find some sort of marks on car ie boot scuffs on rear internal side panels(BMW adjusted rear belts that time) In for steering rattle (BMW fitted new steering coloumn then put nearly 30 miles on it testing it) that was last Tues havent used it for a week went out for drive yesterday, washed it today and noticed very slight scuff on alloy wheels, could have been me?also slight marks in drivers footplate again after having front seat belt rattles fixed. Wondering if i should get BMW and myself to do a check on vehicle when i drop it off and when i pick it back up,cant prove it any other way.Or am i just a paranoid mini owner? |

Offline | Not the same problem i know but when i've taken my MINI ONE to the dealers for either servicing or warranty work they've kindly washed it for me.Now i haven't let it within 10 feet of a car wash(its sloid Black) but thought that because they stick their £60,000 cars through theirs that it would be fine. The first time they put it through it initially looked fine until the sunlight hit it.There were lots of swirl marks all over and it seemed to dull the paint.I had some Meguiars Scratch X at home so i used this and removed the swirl marks. The next time i took it in i asked them for it to be handwashed and asked if they'd had any problems with the car wash scratching. The service guy said no cos they wouldn't stick their most expensive cars through if they had.He asked if i'd put it through another car wash and looked a little sceptical when i said i hadn't.Anyhoo next time i go in i again forgot to mention to handwash only,i get my car back and its covered in swirl marks again. So i Scratch X again. The last time i took it in i remembered to ask them to handwash but i'm not sure if they did cos it still looked a bit messy and swirly.I think my problem has been there since i had the car.You can rub your finger across the laquer and leave a scratch, dusters do the same and even the Autoglym ultimate polishing cloth does.I have spoken to a few owners of specifically Black MINIs at MINI shows to find out how they avoid the scratches and they just look at me as if i'm some sort of idiot who washes his car with a brillo pad.I can only assume that the laquer is soft in some way.Needless to say my September 05 delivery will be Pepper White .Fingers crossed i have better luck with this one. |
