Lightbulb How do you handle... dog fur

Hi,

I have a little cavalier king charles spaniel travelling all the time with me in the Mini.
I choose this breed because I read somewhere it doesn't shed a lot... Well that's untrue.

The cute little thing is a non-stop hair spawner and I found quite difficult to remove all its hair, even with a car wash vacuum cleaner.

I'd be happy if any of you know can give me a good way to remove dog fur from the carpets and the seats of the Mini.

Cheers

My dogs are not allowed in the MINI (or so my hubby thinks) but it still gets hair infested just from my clothes. Apparently I carry a lot of static electricity about so their hair just sticks to me and gets into the car anyway.

I used to let my dogs in my last car and I found that rubber gloves were good for getting the hair out (recommended by my detailer at the time). Now I have my mothers Kirby and it has this funky upholstery attachment that has a spinning disc with a brush - works wonders at getting the hairs out that work their way into the weave of the upholstery.

Good luck.

PS in case you have no idea what a Kirby is it is a stupidly expensive vacuum cleaner that all of my friends mothers bought only to find that they couldn't work them. So they gave them to their kids.

You could always wrap it in cling film before you put it in the car.

Either that or not take it in the car or pop it in the boot?

Have you tried sticky tape as that seems to work for hairs on clothes

well i have a long haired jack russell, by the name of PEPE .... and jack russell terriers always loose their hair...

in the winter i have the dog thing for the backseatrs.. works perfectly

if he's wet in the summer then he's on the backseats while they're laying down..

otherwise he's with me in the front and his fastes time on the ring is a 10:20 BTG..looking out of the front window ( seat all up and in front ) and he managed to even out all corners..

a tip for hair:

use a first aid glove and just take the hairs off the static electricity sticks them to the glove.. works perfectly ..

other than than .. get leather seats.. easier to clean

same issue here, I've got two Jack Russels, one broken coat, and one short coat, and while they're not allowed in the car* the hair still gets in there from my cloths (just like poki).... you can get sticky roller things that are like inside out sticky tape which you roll back and forth, I keep meaning to get one of those to try it...

* although Eddie did jump in the car the 2nd day I had it and pee'd all over the passenger seat in his excitement.....

If you go to a pet store you can get a rubber glove that is made specially for dog hair. It's made with little rubber 'nubs' instead of just a smooth surface - this makes it even better at removing hairs from upholstery. It's meant for actually grooming your dog, but the instructions say its very handy for upholstery and carpet too... so I tried it. Works a treat. I actually got mine from a shop called Poundland (where everything costs £1 (obviously)) so it soon paid for itself!

Maybe a bit more expensive, but our two westies travel in the official MINI rear seat cover, and it's fantastic - Well worth the £100 notes. It follows the seats, the seat belts poke through so you can use dog harnesses and the front portion hooks on the headrests of the front seats, making a 'well' for the dogs. Its called a 'rear cover'

I can think of two remedys. One, cover the seats in vinyl. Two, shave the dog.

Pet fur is best solved by a quick polyurethane spray

Just make sure your pet is completely dry before they get in the car. They aren't soft any more but they have a lovely very shiny coat.

Sorry couldn't resist, just kidding of course don't go rushing out to the shed!

1. Seat covers
2. Fold down rear seats and cover backs with inexpensive blanket
3. Vacuum thoroughly after doggie use
4. Use a sticky lint roller to pick up stray hair not sucked up by vacuum.
5. Use Febreze to deodorize upholstery.
6. Use Stoners Invisible Glass or Einzett to remove nose prints from windows.

My 60 lb Vizsla has been on two 2000 mile round trips to Canada and one 3200 mile round trip from California to the Mid-West. No problems.

A simple solution is to use sticky tape e.g cellotape to pick up any deposits on seats or carpets. One method is to wrap the tape (sticky side facing out) round your four fingers and simply dab or gently rub the fabric - all hairs & dust etc wil stock to th tape.

But sticky lint rollers are much cheaper and they cover a much larger area than using your finger. They can be purchased in a set of 4 from Costco.

Oh, I have an answer to this - which doesn't involve shaving . My Cat (and believe me cat hair is sooooo much worse) can be a bit clingy and likes to sleep in my car when it's moving, she's able to cover the whole car with hair in a very short time span.

I bought these http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/Produ...ProductID=9082

and the biggest one, takes up hair with no effort - even if that's not it's original purpose it's really good for it!

If it's only an occasional thing, it might be a good excuse for a professional cleaning...
I once had the bright idea of taking my cat with me to pick up my wife from work when she (the wife, not the cat) was having a particularly bad day. The cat cheered her up, but the combination of white cat + black cloth interior = very, very bad. We had the car "detailed", which in this case was just a thorough cleaning, and the guys at the car wash did a very good job at removing the cat hair, but they sure earned their tips that day...
