Additional Protection - waste of money?

As seems to be the case with all new cars these days, the moment you've signed, there's someone else after you for more money - the "protection" stuff...

In the UK I wouldn't usually bother, but over here with the climate - heat, sea air and all that, I've decided the Paint Protection, Interior Protection (leather and dash etc.) and the tinted windows, but the bundle has meant it comes with the underbody stuff too...

Do you guys think these are worth while additions or not?

Thanks in advance,

Anthony..

I asked exactly the same question re the paint protection packages etc when I was about to pick up my car.

Hope this helps.

I'd have probably done the tint if it wasnt so expensive through BMW.

way way back i used to install this after sales additions... well i can tell you if you can pollish your car with a good sealing pollish then your getting the same thing. As far as rust protection underbody stuff is concerned... WHY bother... the Mini is made from Galvanised Steel and Alloy. You might consider the underbody noise protection but thats just a smash repairer nightmate with 3kgs of soft bitumen sprayed on the under body of the car.

there are equivelant things you can buy from SuperCheap for a total of $50 to do the entire same thing.... only suggestion to get is the Tinting.

Dont waste the $1200 or so dollars they charge

The only protection I'd consider is Boo's tint thing. Was gonna do it but too bad, mine's already scratched so I better sort out the paint before I go and get him to install a set on mine

Thanks for that Scotty I tender my post here

I also reckon that ozicozi would be good to get done straight away before you get too many stone chips.

I agree with the OZICOZI thingo, especially for the darker colours the stone chips show up real quick.

Save your money Anthony!

Tinting should be somewhere between $200-400.

To my pleasant surprise when buying my car from Rolfe they did not try and sell one thing to me after signing on the dotted line. Moreover, they told me that it was BMW policy that they could not sell or recommend tinting. Honest, that is what they told me.

Just enjoy your MINI mate.

Cheers Liam

I'd have to support that recommendation Steve. I've got it on both of my cars and it looks great and protects the duco without even being seen by anyone.

If anyone is interested please check out our website at www.ozicozi.com.au for contact information, myself in Melbourne or Boo (Andrew) in Sydney.

This is what it looks like on a DS. There is a diagram on the web site that shows where the pieces are installed.

OziCozi Stuff

Has anyone in SA used/got OziCozi I would love too see it in action, especially if it has been on the car more than a year.

Seems better Idea (lots better) than those bloody car bra things, but I am concerned about - the way it reacts to sunlight, edges lifting/peeling up and if the paint underneath it fades differently to the rest of the car.

That DS MCS is actually a South Australian car, owned by someone highly regarded in MINI circles. But it is a recent installation.

The film is guaranteed not to fade or peel away. After 5 years you will be able to peel it off and the paintwork will look as good as new, no stonechips. These days, most OEM paint shouldn't fade noticeably for ten years hence the guarantees you get from the manufacturer.
