Offline | Have 300 miles on MCS and like so many of owners plan on changing oil before the 10,000 recommendation. Plan on changing around 2000 for the first change. At this pt. neither the dealer or MINI help line seem to know the torque setting for the oil crankcase drain or the oil filter cap. The oil filter cap takes a 36m socket to remove (from the top). Easy to over tighten. Also hoping someone has changed the oil filter and figured a way to catch the oil from filter from running all over the undercarrage pieces. No clear line straight down to drain. Help from anybody who has changed their oil and filter themselves reborn Cooper S driver |

Offline | I have done it myself, using a MINI filter. Drain bolt in sump has a nylon washer built into it, so it does not have to be very tight. Oil filter cover has an o-ring in it, so that too does not need to be very tight. I just went by feel, based on how difficult it was to un-do. Not very scientific, but I am pretty confident that I have not overtighted anything. As for oil spillage - I just put a rag around the filter housing to catch any drips, although the latent oil level is below the lid, so the only drips you get are from the filter when its extracted. Note that the replacment only fits around one way You gotta drive it like you stole it!! |
