Wiper Blades

A year has passed, and I think my wiper blades could do with being changed! I do a lot of motorway driving, so they get a lot of use. I've noticed now that they are not wiping the water away very effectively.

I've had a little search, and Bosch seems to be a favourite. Is this right?

I was going to buy some from Speeding.co.uk, but I'm slightly confused. If I remember correctly, one of the wipers has a spoiler on at present. So would I want this again, or should I get both with spoilers, or neither? Decisions decisions.

Thanks a lot guys.

Hi Max

My comments said nothing about females being able to answer questions. I was simply stating that I am not a female!

With regards to the wiper blades... I didn't think of just replacing the rubber. But is this a good way of doing it? I've certainly read that the Halfords-branded sets of wiper blades are pretty awful. I'm not sure about buying the rubber alone though. I don't mind spending a few quit on the Bosch sets if these are good and are going to last.

I got genuine MINI ones - they were cheap, they operated silently, and they cleaned the windscreen perfectly!

I've just ordered the Bosch blades from Speeding.co.uk (I emailed them to ask exactly which ones I needed - they obviously have a vehicle applications list). If anyone's interested, you need the 18" with spoiler for the driver's side, and normal 19" for the passenger's side. It came to £13.50 for the set, including free delivery. Not bad.

How much were they from the dealer lightbody?

Halfords is very over-priced. Speeding are very cheap and their service is excellent.

Hi,
Regarding the blades with the spoiler are these the same as the VW new blades, a thin spoiler the lenght of the blade and sprung to stick on the windscreen?
If so are these a easy retro-fit?

Regards

No, alas, they are not. We have these on the family VW motor, and they are pretty impressive. They appear to becoming available across a wider range of cars now, but not seen yet in MINI size.....

Well, the Bosch wipers arrived today from Speeding, and without sounding too sad going into massive depth about windscreen wipers, I have to say they're very good indeed! One wipe and the windscreen is clear. No more judder like with the old blades. A good buy.
