Offline | Rear Brake Pad Wear Hi all, Just got my cooper back for new brake fluid and new brake pads & was told the only the rears needed to be replaced and that the fronts were fine. I have done nearly 44k km and was sure that if anything the front would need to be replaced and not the back. Is this a common occurrence? the service adviser said that it might be caused by leaving the park brake on, however I don't think that is the case. any ideas? Thanks Ruben |

Offline | Im pretty sure that under heavy braking (or perhaps any braking), the rear brakes activate first. Al (GOGADGET) has his rears replaced first too. From what Ive read, I understand it to be pretty common. - Global Moderator - MY BLOG - Global Procrastinator - ![]() ... Offline | you may want to check if your rear calipers are hanging up a little..i replaced my rear calipers myself, because the dealer couldn't see the problem. however, when i released my e-brake, the levers on the rear calipers would intermittently hang up..i noticed this one day on a slight incline, i released the brake and the vehicle wouldn't roll. I jacked the car up and the rear wheels wouldn't spin with ease. I physically tapped the e-brake levers on the calipers and they released.....they didn't stay on enough to cause smoke or any symptoms with exception of premature brake wear. after i replaced my calipers, i haven't had a problem since. |
