United-States "Service Engine Soon" light at 1200 miles?!

Just curious, today the "service engine soon" light went on and stays on. I only have 1200 miles on my new 05 MCS. Is this normal? And what kind of service is required? Thanks.

Appears to be a software glitch with the 2005MCSa.

I had a bad thermostat cause mine to go off at about 1800 miles. Car wasn't overheating or anything, ran fine, but the code showed it was at fault.

15 min fix (+ 35 min drive each way to the dealer).

I had the engine light come on after 300km on my new '05 S. It turns out that the alternator needed to be replaced. The dealership was very good with providing a loaner and getting it fixed same day. I must say that I was disappointed to have issues that soon. However, I have since had an awesome, trouble free ride.

Well, as I said my light has since gone off and not returned. If it does, I will take the car to the dealer as it could be an unrelated problem judging from the the 2 posts above. Thank you. It's good that we are here to help each other.

I have an early '03 MC CVT, and my light goes off every time I drive in Steptronic mode. I took it to the dealer, they said there was a faulty control module, replaced it, but it still comes on. Everything rides and works fine, so I'm not too worried.

Have you tried re-seating your gas cap? I have had the light come on twice because of that... I would recommend picking up a code reader (online all over the place, I got mine at minimania) - can let you know if its worth a trip to the dealer.

I had a 2004 CVT and never experienced this. Interesting. Do you have the latest software installed? This issue (much has been posted in the MCSa Room) appears limited to the 2005 MCS automatic and just about everyone is reporting it. Sensor and/or software glitch - to be determined. I called my dealer again today - they are still waiting on a factory fix. The gas cap has absolutely nothing to do with it. Otherwise, the 2005 MCSa is a blast and a half, no other problems to report. Given the large scheme of things, it's relatively minor, not to worry. Think of all the other things that could go wrong.

Your car on the other hand sounds like it may be an entirely different problem or a different fix anyway. I'd go back to your dealer, better yet, try another dealer if you have one in your area.
