Oil Filter Torque Wrench

Does anyone use a Torque Wrench to tighten the recommended 25nM when they replace the oil filter.

Sounds like shooting with a cannon at a musquito. I've always learned oil filters should be hand-tight only.

Yes but that's in reference to a totally different design.
And hand tight only is usually incorrect as well. Most are tighten to contact plus 3/4 of a turn. If you measure that it's right around 12lbs/ft.
The canister type filter that the MINI uses is like the ones that I used to use on trucks back in the '70's. They were stronger. That's back when hitting 80-90psi oil pressure wasn't that unusual. At that pressure your cheap spin ons would balloon like Homer Simpson. If I remember right they were torqued to 18-20lbs/ft.
25Nm is 18.44lbs/ft.

I tighten mine with a torque wrench, but then I'm pretty particular about my Mini. I doubt many people torque the filter and/or the drain plug to spec (including dealerships) but If you've got the wrench and the sockets, why not? Maybe it's just me but I feel a certain sense of satisfaction by doing so.

I will try to use a Torque Wrench when the time comes for me to do my first oil change. I use them at work (in the aircraft industry) and I much prefer to use Torque Wrench if you have the required torque setting, specified. Someone has gone to the trouble to work out the optimum torque setting, the least I could to is use this knowledge.
