| Oil Filter, Second Asking Look down about four or five spaces to find the first post on this. I put this question on FOUR MiNi forums. It has been reviewed over 100 times and no one has offered an answer or suggestion. AMAZING!!! This forum seems to be populated with people who are more into the technical aspects of the MINI, so I was hoping to get some help here. If you know how the new filter goes in to the filter chamber, please tell me. Thanks |

Offline | Have you tried asking your dealers? There service department will surely be happy to let you know? Anyway, a search has brought up this: http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...t=oil+filt er and this: http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...t=oil+filt er and this: http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...t=oil+filt er and here: (in particular the post from Juanello) http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...t=oil+filt er I searched for Oil Filter. If these don't help, try PM'ing the people who seem to have done the job already asking for advice. Paul |

| Thanks Paul Yes I am going to call my service department Monday morning. I was just hoping to get some information this week end. It just bothers me to have a job half done: fresh oil and old filter. I'm sure you understand. Thanks for the references. |

Offline | Copied from an earlier thread about changing the oil, see the complete post at: http://www.mini2.com/forum/newreply....y&postid=90365 This is a little difficult to explain but is very clear once you do it. The ends of the filter element are heavy paper, and the holes in each end are undersized for a tight seal. You need to press fit the new element into place first to enlarge the holes, or you'll have trouble lining up the can and filter and engaging the treads on the block. Use the palm of your hand to press fit the filter over the tube inside the can first, remove it, wet the seal on the other end then press the element into place over the tube on the engine and leave it there. Now you can screw the can back onto the block easily (don't forget to replace the o-ring on the can.) By the way, there's no mistaking which end of the filter element goes where, the larger hole in the can, the smaller one on the block. | Got to Keep Track of the Parts When we took out my oil filter the plastic tube from the cap end was still in it. This left only the spring in the cap. We removed the seal and tube from the cap end of the filter and the seal from the block end. With all the parts laying there and a new (and different) filter in my hand, it was a little confusing as to how this all went back together. I posted a procedure similar to the one above as a new threead. The difference is that it includes what to do with those parts. Without this information it would be easy for an uninterested iol change guy to put the filter in wrong. I love this car and I admit to being more than a little paranoid about the engine staying in good health. I plan to run and enjoy this great little car fpr a very long time. My wife has one on order. Should be here in a couple months. I think being a two MINI family will be great except she wants to park it in order to save it until her Buick (read BOAT) dies. I don't think she'll be able to hold out that long. |
