Canada rain x

I purchased some rain x yesterday and it was put to the test today...incredible! I drove in a steady rain for twenty minutes and never turned on the wipers. Once your car nears 50km, the beaded water just runs off the windshield. Try this product out - you won't be disappointed.

I agree with you! Rain-x makes a heck of a difference in the rain. I even use the Rain-x winshield wash fluid for extra protection.

Funny thing is, Rain-x was the worst thing to have when I had my Jeep Wrangler. I guess it was the angle of the windshield. It made the raindrops splatter and sort of stick right on the windshield in front of my face! With Rain-x on it in the rain, it made it almost impossible to see! I scrubbed my windshield like crazy after I had applied it to try to remove it. I'm glad it works well in my MINI!

I like it a lot as well. Just a pain to reapply after you have washed your car or after too many rainfalls. Hahaha...

My Mini Cooper has black stripes, factory installed, and when I was using Rain-X I inadvertently sat the Rain-X bottle on one of the stripes. The result was a smear mark, quite noticeable, in the stripe, and impossible to remove. Just a caution for those of you using this product and having stripes. I realize there are several types of Rain-X, mine was the el cheapo one without fog remover etc. Otherwise, Rain-X works well.

United-States Rain X

I have to say that I have been using Rain X for over 15 years and love it. One downside though...I have been stopped a couple times by the police because when it rains, the wipers have to be on no matter what. How are they suppose to know you have Rain on the front screen. Not to mention all the other motorists looking at you like you were a moron driving without whippers. Don't get me wrong, I love the stuff, but keep it on the side windows, mirrors, rear window and headlight covers. Just my 2 cents..Gary

So......is Rain X detrimental to glass, or for that matter paint work in any way?

If it isn't I'll buy some and give it a try !!

definately doesn't hurt glass, though i'm not sure about applying it to paintwork. it helps keep the frost off in winter too

I used to use RainX on my old MGB Roadster. Fortunately it is an awesome product because the wipers never worked!

Anyone tried RainX with the auto wipers? Can't imagine there's much point.

itsnot a case of not being able to use them - you just don't need to use them as much. anything above 60mph & the rain just runs off the screen

United-States Rain X

I love the stuff myself, but here in New Jersey, the law says that when it rains, you MUST have your wipers and lights on, it's the law. I would rather have Rain X on the front and leave them off above 60 MPH. But I don't need a ticket.
Did you know the best way to clean your glass is to use vinegar and water and wipe it off with newspaper? Try it because it works like crazy. Haven't found a better way.

Downside is your car smells like a chip shop! And keep it off the paintwork. My mate ended up with a very nasty bonnet following mis-applied vinegar on his old Rover.

Rain-X with auto wipers is just overkill. It makes me giggle every time. In conjunction with the Rain-X, the windscreen wipes crystal clear. Sometimes, the water will blow right off, so the wipers don't even bother to activate.

I don't find Rain-X so good for the Mini. It doesn't last up front when the wipers operate
and try explaining to a court why you were driving in the rain with no wipers on. On my
my previous cars I've used it successfully on the rear screen as well but not with the Mini.
It makes no difference what so ever on preventing the screen getting dirty so you have to
use the wipers and again it doesn't last after this. On side windows and wing mirrors it's
still handy though.

I have to admit I'm with SteveM3 on this one.

I bought a bottle because of rave reviews, and I'm not sure I like it. It definitely makes a difference, but I'm not sure it's always a good difference. It's o.k. at lower speeds as the water runs off quicker, but sometimes at higher speeds I find that it makes things worse as water is forced up the slippery window rather than down/sideways. A bit weird. I also think that if you use it with the wipers the initial wiper-smear is just a fraction worse, but to be fair any smear does dry quicker.

So all in all I don't feel it's an improvement, just slightly different than before. It is more slippery than without though, but doesn't seem to leave the window any cleaner after a long trip, which was the initial reason I wanted to try it. I'm still looking for a slippery window cleaner that repels insects better, but RainX doesn't help for this.

Yep i'd agree with you Steve. Rain X made my wipers make a really irratating noise. I also find it doesn't perform as well as it has on other cars that i've used it on.

I use AutoGlym Car Glass Polish now, very happy with the results that gives

I now use AutoGlym Fast Glass as it is fast and doubles up as an insect remover.

Anyone tried using this on a convertible rear window? The visibility out of that in the rain is very poor. Would be worried about getting it on the hood itself, how do yyou apply the stuff?

You put some on a dry cloth and rub it into the window as if you were waxing bodywork.
You then repeat the process. Then sprinkle a small quantity of water over the window.
Finally use a dry cloth to rub the window dry. Sounds a fuss but actually it's very quick.

Hi all,

I'm hoping to get an answer to jediross's question about rainx and the convertible's rear window because its starting to be annoying now it rains half of the time, I can never see anythig through it...
