Offline | Hello all, I'm new at this site and was wondering if you guys can give me some advice. I am planning to purchase a new mini next week. I am also struggling to choose the model of the cooper. After test driving both models, I like the cooper S for the acceleration. At the same time, I like the lower cost of the regular cooper. So, what are the advantages of having a cooper S over the regular cooper, besides the hp? Oh, by the way, I'm getting an automatic transmission. Does the cooper S model use the CVT transmission for the automatic? Which model is better for the buck? Thanks for the help... |

Offline | Hey Future Owner I originally ordered a manual, however, [read my other threads] due to dealer error, I got a MSCa [Mini Cooper S Auto]. Well all I can say is that this is by far better than the manual. The S not only has the power, but the MSCa also has "Steptronic" paddles shifters. What this means is that the S has "D"rive plus "SD" sports Drive and "M"anual modes. Read the threads and sticky under Copper S Auto and CVT as this explains the difference. Well, I drive totally in Manual mode using the paddle shift, but also in D or SD you can use the paddles any time to drop down or up whilst driving. The MCSa stepronic is also 6 speed versus the CVT of 5 speed. IMHO if you want auto, you need the extra power and believe me you will be wrapped. Email or PM me if you need any more information. Good Luck ![]() |

Offline | I just ordered my Mini Cooper yesterday morning. I decided that I valued the lower price and smother ride more than the acceleration and bumpy tight suspension. With the money I saved on not getting the S I was able to get several very nice luxury amenities like the Automatic AC and a few other things. It really depends on what you consider your priorities. Both cars look great and drive great. ![]() |

Offline | Apart from the lower fuel consumption and softer ride, if you have a particular budget to spend on the car, the number of accessories you can add to the Cooper rather than the S would make 'speccin' very interesting. If you want a blast however and **** the fuel consumption, it has to be the S. This was the reasoning I went for the One over the Cooper and haven't regretted it. Remember YOU are buying it so it's your call. morrisminiminor |
