Brake Fluid

When I got my first service they reset the brake fluid meter back to 2 years again and I have not changed it. In a few months my car will be 2 years old ( I think that is when you should change brake fluid), should I get it changed anyway and how important is it?

Yep the manual says the fluid should be changed every two years. But when was your first service? I suppose the dealer changed it then. You'd probably better check with them

I looked at the papers I gto after service and it said nothing about brake fluid (just oil, filter and so on).

You say your first service, but was it the car's first or second? An oil service or inspection service? Since your car is two years old I guess it was an inspection service at about 40,000kms. I don't honestly know whether, as Max suggested, the dealer changes the fluid during inspection service but the fact they reset the meter would seem like they did.

Who is your dealer - BMW Group Stockholm? You really need to phone their service department who should be able to check their records.

The manual says brake fluid takes on moisture during its lifetime and that's the reason it should be changed at least every two years. If you find you have to press on the brake pedal more heavily to get them to work then that's probably a sign you do need the fluid changed.

...the first service done (oil service), I bought the car almost new but the first 6 months the dealer at Uppsala had it as a demo car and it was not driven very much the first 6 months. I did this oil service at 17000km maj 2005.
