    Hello Dermottdog
Just bought a used mini today, saw your post about timing belt issues, just wondering if I should worry about this issue? the engine is quiet for now, but how do I prevent things like this happen in the future? check and refill engine oil every week? or should I replace the timing belt tensioner before anything happens? thanks

Thank you very much! I will take my car to the dealer this week, I guess this will be the Timing chain tensioner and / or the chain for me too.

    Dear Bufracing
We purchased our MCS in Jan 2010 from Cooper, Croydon. About 3 months in, we got a light metalic sound intermittently. We searched the Internet and found many issues similar to ours. The issue was resolved by the dealer (to their credit) when they listened to a recording of the noise. The noise can be heard on YouTube (mini R56 engine rattle when cold). Our noise was identical to many on YouTube. It is a reconised fault and our dealer was brilliant. Good luck.

    Dear Dermottog,
How did you resolve the Timing chain issue? I just bought a Mini Cooper S a week ago, but I am not sure what can cause a quite weird noise at cold start. It happened just only once, because normally she is in the garage, but for me it sounded like a chain issue, even though it stopped after a minute, so maybe the VVT instead. My car ha 46Ks in it and from 2008.
    Thanks in advance!
