Greetings. Members of the Mid-Atlantic Mini Enthusiasts are currently planning a Mini Rally to celebrate the opening weekend of the remade film "The Italian Job". We are crafting a dayfull of events. We are planning a late morning/early afternoon Rally Drive followed by Lunch at a restaurant in the area of the Hoffman Movie Theater (tentativly) outside the D.C. area. After lunch and some pictures we are going to walk over to the theater and see an early afternoon showing of The Italian Job Movie. We are expecting a large showing of mini's for this event.

Times and locations are tentative at this point. As the Release Date (Friday, 5/30/03) creeps closer we will have a better idea of shows times for Saturday. The route for the road rally is still also in the very beginning stages of conception. We will keep you updated as far as exact places and times.

Just wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible so you can clear your Calenders! [b]Saturday, May 31st, 2003[/B}

A few things for this rally are already starting to fall into place. We are going to start planning the rally route this weekend. From the suggestions offerred it sounds like it will be a kick butt drive. Also in the works is getting reserved parking (and possible seating) at the AMC Hoffman Center for the Movie. Movie times are released about 6 weeks before the opening of the event. We will need to wait until then to pin down exact times. Count on it being in the early afternoon though.

Will keep you updated as things unfold. You can also checkhere for more information.

Looks like GMINI03 is coming the farthest to this event so far. Where are those guys from CT? They seem to be willing to travel at a moments notice

Things are starting to slowly shape up for this Drive/Lunch/Movie. Looks like we will be able to snag the parking lot across from the Hoffman Center. We are planning the rally route within the next two weeks. We will post it
here when it is finalized.

A route NW through the Maryland countryside following the scenic canal route to Point of Rocks with a return involving the Historic White Ferry would be a scenic drive, and it would be cool to see how many MINI’s would fit on the ferry.

Well the rally route is planned and looks to be a lot of fun. We are going to run it in the morning to avoid as much traffic as possible and open up on some of the roads a bit.

Due to some type of traffic accident Mike and I were not able to run it this past Sunday. The traffic was horrific. I will be coming back down to run it in the next few weeks and make some finer adjustments.

Well, I have not been very "involved" on the board lately but this is a must do event. Great web site, and the trailer looks promising. Now, for those such as MP and myself, we need to plan some smaller get-together for watching the original!

But finding the original may be the hard part. The video has been out of print for some time (amazon.com has some for $149.00!) and the DVD has yet to be released. Maybe if you know someone with a copy or are lucky enough to have a video store that carries it. I gave up and got it over the internet from a friend. 730mb DivX avi file. Good quality.

We watched it last night and really enjoyed it. I doubt the hollywood version will come close. (besides the fact that they threw out about 90% of the plot from the old one.)

Yes, you can get the "Italian Job" from your local library! Just order it on Interlibrary Loan (the greatest unknown bargain around). Be sure to tell them you want the 1969 version, of course. It took 2 months (!) but our library finally came through with a VHS copy in perfect condition from a Texas library . Cost me $1 to rent it for 3 weeks.
