Offline | Charity laps That's $25 per car. Better to come down on the last weekend of July for member day at VIR. You can drive for 4 30 minute sessions as a guest driver for $125, plus whatever it costs to get the car inspected by your dealer or favorite mechanic. We could talk at the event if you want. There were four Minis out there last time I went and they all had a great time. John |

Offline | Folks, and especially John S.; Carolyn and I are going to bow out of this one. A family function on Sunday morning and a foul weather outlook have conspired to bring us to this decision. John, it's a great idea and you are most generous in your offer to both lead and feed us! Those that know us know that we don't shy from traveling far to join other MINIacs on adventures. We were both looking forward to the races and the camaraderie. We also looked forward to a night or two in Richmond (we happen to like the city) and eat at our favorite spot, Joe's Inn. It is a great idea and I hope you will lead another John. I believe you mentioned a date later in July when the lunchtime lapping may be even more fun I hope everyone has a great time and stays dry. - Jonathan Picked up 12 July 2002. 69,000 rev happy miles Autocrossing in G Stock this year!!! |

Offline | VIR Event Rain or not, we are planning to press on regardless. If you ever read Mini World Magazine, you have seen the photos of Mini events in England and it seems most of them are run in the rain. Hopefully, the rain will come early and it will dry off in time for the races. We may stay overnight if Saturday is too wet and just go on Sunday, when the weather prediction is for partly cloudy. See previous postings regarding meeting sites and times. John |

Offline | Weather.com is now saying 80% chance of rain on Saturday for the Danville area: http://www.weather.com/weather/local...red&whatprefs= So I'm going to reschedule for Sunday (only 20% chance). Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | Normally I'd agree with you, COOP, but a lot of the cars are open-top, so the owners/drivers may object to turning their treasured Porsche or MG into a hot tub :-) Besides, Saturday was just qualifying anyway - Sunday is when the actual races occur. Offline | VIR Races No, there's qualifying in the morning and 8 features races in the afternoon, pretty much the same as on Sunday. I think Sunday will be much better weather, but we chose Saturday because of the car show. We're heading down anyway - can't very well not show if I have arranged the tour. The weather channel says there may be a several hour break of clear weather once the warm front moves through and, given the maps they are showing, the front is a little more than half-way past, so the clearing may arrive early afternoon. Hopefully we will see some of that. Otherwise, might either abort once we have breakfast if it looks hopeless or continue on and stay the night and go tomorrow. Hope to see SOMEONE there. | MINI2 Regular | Sorry to say, I'm aborting my trip to meet you all at the races. I wish the weather would have cooperated better with us for today. I looked up the hourly foecast for Danville on weather.com, and thunderstorms were prediceted the entire day! :-( '03 Cooper PS/B with sport, premium packages, xenons, CVT, red leather interior |

Offline | Well Dad & I went, and had a great time. Got to see a couple of classic Minis - some on the track, some on the road. Car 76 (Cooper S) was driven very well, and was gradually moving up until the race officials stopped that race due to a huge wreck involving 7 or 8 cars in turn 1. Car 16 (also a Cooper S) needed to take some lessons - they were braking through the first part of the turn and seemed to be fairly timid. They'll improve with time. In the same race a Lotus Super 7 went off track, got sideways on the wet grass, and slid through a huge mud puddle, drenching the driver & car. He managed to keep it running, and rejoined the pack. Got a wave from a classic Mini owner on the drive home - my first! Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | VIR Trip I agree with chiph, the races were just great. We had a grand total of zero participants show up for the trip from Richmond, so I went with my son and a neighbor. The folks from Flow Mini had set up some small tents, so we camped out there and watched the races. 56 cars in the MG race to start things out, half dozen Minis in two of the other races, more nice Minis parked around the paddock. The event looked like the pictures from England of their Mini events, and the weather was really not that bad, so it was a very enjoyable trip. I'm sorry I didn't meet the others coming from other directions at the race. I made no provisions to identify myself there (we were in the electric blue Mini S parked by the car show next to the black car from Flow Mini). Figured that there would be so many cars from our region that anyone meeting us there would just look for the row of Minis we brought, but our car made a pretty small row all by itself. Hope some of you caught the IHRA races at Virginia Motorsports Park on Sunday. Top Fuelers and jet cars - a bit of a delay because of the rain, but worth the wait. John |

Offline | MoonPie - I actually took my camera, but because of the on/off drizzle decided to leave it in the back of the car. I probably should have pulled it out - would have given me an excuse to upgrade. ![]() Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | Yeah - I have an ancient Kodak DC-260 -- one of the first 1-megapixel cameras. I call it "Patience" because it's so slow (about 15 seconds to turn on, and 8 seconds between shots. Shutter delay is about 3/4 of a second). I broke one of the LCDs on it at some point, and it eats batteries like a kid on Halloween night goes through candy. I'd love to get one of the Canon S-45's. http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/s50-45/index.html Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | I think you just found the theme for your new sig image! Sure did. I was top dog for all of two months, I think. Whenever I decide to buy a Canon or a CoopPix I'll give my Kodak to my 7 year old niece - she can't hurt it anymore than it already is.Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |
