Solomons Island Run - Saturday, Sept. 6th

Solomon's Island Run - Saturday, Sept. 6th

Oh yes - this is going to be a GOOD one!! Definitely one you don't want to miss This event is for ALL MINI owners - DC METRO MINIS members or not.

Our starting point will be just off Indian Head Highway (Rt. 210 South) in Maryland. From there we will take a very beautiful scenic drive (with some great twisties thrown in for good measure)! These roads are just beautiful and will take us through some gorgeous Amish country.

Our final destination will be the Lighthouse Inn on Solomons Island where we have reserved the upper deck (inside) area for lunch. The views are just spectacular!! The Patuxent River on one side & Solomons Harbor on the other. After lunch, there are some great little shops to poke in and out of.

Lunch will be from a limited menu as they normally don't serve lunch inside on Saturdays. So a little variety I hope everybody will like. The price is $13.50 which includes lunch, drink, tax, and gratuity. If you want dessert, it will be $17.50. And they will be happy to do separate checks for us. You can check out their website at www.lighthouse-inn.com.

Now for some minor details:

Motoring Group 1:

Those coming from Virginia and maybe some other parts, we will LEAVE PROMPTLY at 9:30 am from the Galleria at Tysons 2 - which is just off Rt. 123 and International Drive. We will be heading down 123 to the GW Parkway and making a stop at the Columbia Island Marina to pick up the next caravan.

Motoring Group 2:

If you do not wish to meet at the Galleria, Motoring Group 1 will be picking you up at the Columbia Island Marina which is off the GW Parkway going South. Please plan to be there no later than 10:00 am as we will just be swinging in and adding you all to the caravan to our starting point. We anticipate leaving here no later than 10:15. Of course, traffic will play a big part on timing....For those of you who went on the Italian Job Run, this is the same Marina that we made a pit stop at before arriving at the theatre. From here we will continue down the GW Parkway, get on Rt.1 for a short distance, and then the Beltway (uggg) over the WW Bridge.

Motoring Group 3:

If you do not wish to meet either Group 1 or Group 2, you can go straight to the starting point and plan to be there no later than 11:00 am. Here are the directions. Off of the beltway, coming from Maryland, it is the LAST exit before crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Going from Virginia, it is the FIRST exit after crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Take Rt. 210 South. Go 5 miles and turn Right on Ft. Washington Rd. Then make an immediate Right (there is no street name but there is an Exxon Gas Station) into the Auto Zone parking lot. There used to be a Food Lion there, but it is empty so we can use that portion of the parking lot to group before we start our drive.

Things to remember:

Eat a big breakfast, bring some water and snacks in the car as it may be a while before you eat. And don't forget your FRS radios....

Please RSVP if you are coming so that we know where you will be that morning. We don't want to forget anybody....

See you soon..

Chow!

what entrance are we meeting at Tysons Galleria? I'd suggest we meet at Tysons 2 Second Level near Macy's or Nieman Marcus.

We're in too! We'll meet the crowd at Tysons 2. We've got a little girl who might not approve of the entire trip down to Solomons Islands so we might have to peel off at some point. But it'll be fun while it lasts!

Just checking in after being out of town for a couple of days.

I have everybody on my list so far..

Again, we will be meeting at the entrance right off International Drive - it is the main entrance - you can't miss it...Turn left once into the parking lot and you will see us...

For those coming that don't know the area, it's off Rt. 123 - off of 495 - Tysons Corner (McLean) area.

Chow!

Solomon's Island

The August 24 Washington Post had a short article about a road trip to Solomon's Island with points of interest along the way. I believe it was page M-10.

I had posted a suggestion of the usual gathering place on I95 at the rest stop south of MD32 @ 10:00. Sound OK to you? Probably best to be simple and just use the Beltway, avoiding Anacostia. I can't find any other alternative that makes sense.
