Offline | All, Since this great idea is gaining traction, I thought it could use its own thread. Some ideas have already come up from BartMack and AprilWhine: [BartMack] hey, maybe we could do a 'Winter Wonderland' run... why wait until spring to gather again? the weather in Hampton Roads is pretty tame.... and I think door prizes would add a lot of fun to lunch, and encourage participation in the run. I might be willing to donate a 'voluntary' membership fee or something like that to help get good stuff to give away. (some suggestions: Free Rear Fog Upgrade, Free Aux Adapter Upgrade, Clean/Detail Gift Certificate, Radio Controlled MINIs.... ) maybe we could pick a restaurant out near the country as a destination for lunch and arrange the run around that. I overheard HarborMINI suggest the Isle of Wight area as really good. [April Whine] Good idea Bart! Maybe a drive through one of the Holiday light displays, either before or after dinner? [my 2 cents] Sounds like it could come together! I know of 3 light displays - Virginia Beach Oceanfront (we saw the lights that were already up), Williamsburg (the more traditional lighting, though I think it's only in the walking areas), and Newport News Park. The Botanical Gardens display is closed this year due to Isabel damage. If it would be too hard to get back across the river from Isle of Wight, is there a good Peninsula restaurant? Offline | 2 comments. The Williamsburg traditional lighting is a get out and walk event. Not a problem since we, my family, do it most every year. But parking is just terrible. Any body know anybody on the Williamburg Foundation commitee that would let us park together in Merchants Square would be nice, a miracle, but nice. NN Park is nice and just a drive through event. Getting queued up to enter the park together would be the only tough part. Doable but the entrance is just past a busy intersection. If we go this route I have a plan that might allow us to queue up. |

Offline | The toughest part will be a date - my personal sked is busier earlier in the month. Since it's an afternoon/evening event, how about Sunday 21 Dec? As far as restaurants go, from the other thread: [BartMack] The Plaza Azteca in the Oyster Point area has **great** authentic Mexican if people like that... it's very reasonable $ too. I'm always up for MINIs and Mexican! Offline | Possible. Got to work out a few details and not sure about the 21st. Must check my book. But what a nice Christmas pressie would be to meet y'all. MP & RP might be able to do this run as well. PS Mexican sounds excellent, btw. ![]() "Sunshine and Peace." - Maxamini ![]() |

Offline | All, If we're going to make this happen, I guess we need to decide on some specifics: 1. The Date - Sunday, 21 December (unless lots of people can't make that date) 2. The Time - afternoon/evening (route dependent) 3. The Plan - Meet, Drive (Isle of Wight?/Peninsula), Eat (Plaza Azteca in Oyster Point?), Chistmas Light show at Newport News City Park 4. The Route - I could kluge something together, but I think others (BartMack for Isle of Wight, Peninsula dwellers AprilWhine, obehave, Cajun, etc) would do a better job 5. Other Ideas - Decorate the MINIs? Door prizes? (I can volunteer for that) Press coverage? Let's get our ideas/thoughts in and make a great holiday event! | Loves the Fuzzy One | All is fine with me. I'm kind of new to living on the peninsula, so think someone else could do a better job of routing. I like the idea of decorating the MINIs, maybe right before the Newport News light show? So we could be part of the show. It's easy to get something in the paper, but we need to decide two weeks ahead, for the details to be included. Once everyone decides, I can do that part if you like. If we don't have prizes, or in addition, we could have a gift exchange? One per car, then chosen in order of best decorations or ? ![]() Global Moderator |

Offline | Wow. That sounds like a lot to organize in a month. Wish I could help, but too far away. One snag I might encounter with coming is the company holiday party. Don't have the date yet. Can't get out of it. Mandatory for management to attend. Got my fingers crossed. ![]() "Sunshine and Peace." - Maxamini ![]() |

Offline | Ruthie, It's actually really easy to "organize" Once the time and date are agreed upon, one or two people need to come up with the route, which should only take an hour or two to do(providing they're familiar with where they're going). You get a rough head count for the restaurant a few days ahead of time, and that's pretty much it. After that, it's up to the individual MINI afficianados to come! We do lots of talking on MINI2 and the Yahoo HR Club MINI and just let things flow. It's like the Irish "ceili" parties - the people make it a party! Door prizes will be easy too - Checkered Flag has already told us they'll work with us.Hope you can make it!
