Propellers & Wings Rally - Saturday, July 10, 2004 - IMPORTANT!!! NEW START POINT!

Greetings,

For those that know us in the PhillyMINI Club, we have a tendency to plan well in advance of our events!!!! Well, it's time to pull together another festive gathering in the hills and valleys of Bucks County, PA!!

For those of you that joined the 63 MINIs/Minis and other assorted vehicles last year, you know that some of the best driving can be found in this area!! Twisties, Covered Bridges, creeks, streams, rivers and lakes!!

Well, this year, it's BIGGER and BOLDER than ever!!

Two of the three originators (Craig, aka Pocket_Rocket and Scott, aka MOI!) are joining forces with ALL of the local BMW clubs in the area to attempt to pull together the largest regional gathering of BMW-built vehicles for what will most certainly be an entertaining event for all!

Details are still in their infancy stages, but note it will be a significantly different format from last year.

So, block your calendars, and Motor into Bucks County for the day, the week-end, or a lifetime!!!

Date: Saturday, July 10, 2004 - RAIN OR SHINE!!!!

Meeting Time: 9:00AM to 11:00AM

As this event will most likely have a significantly large gathering, the start time is staggered to allow individual groups of Motorists and Riders to select their event for the day (see notes below) and go off in smaller groups, riding at their own paces in a non-timed, non-competitive fashion. You'll have plenty of time whether you are an early bird, or a late arrival to still make it to all the various locations.

Meeting Location: Thompson BMW - 680 N Main Street - Doylestown, PA 18901 - 215-340-3900 - www.thompsonbmw.com for directions

Rally Options:

Option 1 - Bucks County Observation Run
- Discover many interesting, historical and fun facts about Bucks County as you ride/motor around the countryside, trying to find the clues and surprises that we locals don't even know about! Prizes will be awarded in a "drawing" format for those that answer ALL of the Scavenger Hunt surprises! This is a non-timed, non-competitive type of hunt.

Option 2 - Bucks County Covered Bridge Ride - For those not interested in searching for fun-facts, a motoring option is to just drive around and enjoy the beautiful scenery, discover the bridges (different route than last year!) and see how well your MINIs and BMWs handle on wonderfully twisty back roads. Participants in this run will still get tickets for a prize drawing, so as not to feel left out!

Picnic Dinner: 4:00PM to Sunset (may be earlier based on drivetime

Registration is OPEN! Go to www.groups.yahoo.com/group/propellers_and_wings/ to download the Registration Form from the FILES section.

laughscott,
I am a regular to the Philly area once every few months (quakertown area) to visit people. Last time I was up there with the mini, people took me quite a bit of back roading. And I was thinking of pulling a weekend like this as well around this area for the minis. I'd love to help ya in anyway possible... drop me a line if interested.
THANKS!

Hey Sig33kde,

Welcome! Are you familiar with our local MINI owner's club?

www.groups.yahoo.com/group/phillyMINI/

Come join in! This is the second year we've done a run through Bucks County, and we are always looking for volunteers! Please send me a private email, and I'll add you to the list!

Acetonic, not to worry! You know I would NEVER let anyone treat YOU as the backwards cousin!

MoonPie, it will take a while after the holidays to get you the details, but if you liked RDR and RDR-II, the roads in Bucks County are as equally twisty and there are Covered Bridges!

Cheers.

Scott

Talking "No Fear"

Acetonic et al,

I will be handling the Z series cars ~Z3/Z4/M Roadster & Coupe and Z8~ as well as other duties.... As a BMW owner and enthusiast and MINI owner in April I can tell you that the Z people are a really really great group! I am the 2nd in our group to get a MINI and sure I will not be the last.. They all speak highly of MINI and are glad it is part of the family.. The Z cars are a VERY active group like MINI and do or have done many of the same drives over the years........ The original Z3s felt the same way about other BMW owners when it first came out... It takes time..

Worry not... when I start announcing this in the BMW Forums it will be clear that folks with respect for all brands and models under the BMW umbrella are welcome!!

OK,

Taking a few directions from our rather verbose friends up in the New England Forum, attendees will be posted on the first message, along with any updates as they are developed!!!

Once things gel a little better, there "may" be a central registration list, but with ALL of the various Car/Bike/MINI clubs, this is going to get interesting!!

So, post here, post there, post everywhere!!

Cheers.

Gotcha bg1229, Pocket_Rocket, MoonPie, Acetonic (begrudgingly frightened of BMW owners!) and sig33kde* (astericks mean maybes!).

One question that I need answered before I can commit is how will the groups be made up? will MINI's be there own group for the drive or will it be all mixed together?

Gene,

We're still trying to figure out the logistics, but it will probably be a significantly different structure than the last MINI Covered Bridges Rally, combined with a Scavenger Hunt type of system. You'll have directions, places of interest where you will have to get certain details, etc.

Because of the scale of the number of vehicles, it will most likely not be an "all depart at the same time" type of run, but you'll have a "window of time" to depart, and a "window of time" to get to the end destination. My guess is, blocks of cars/bikes will go off on their own together, but not en-masse!

That way, if there's a group of MINI enthusiasts that want to ride together, and cheat for the answers, that great! Faster groups can do their thing, leisurely sightseers can do their thing...

Also expect we'll be doing a picnic-type activity at a wonderful park, contests of some sort...

It's still 7 months out, so hope that helps make your decision to join in the fun!

Scott
