Saying Hello to DC Metro-area MINIs?

Or, how to get someone's attention in the DC area and not get shot at ....

So, I've seen about six or so MINIs since I got my Cooper S two weeks ago. I've tried various methods of getting their attention to say hi.

The coast
I sidle up next to a brother or sister MINI and coast. I glance over and wave once ... if I don't get a response (and chances are in this part of the state you won't, since eye-contact is a sign of weakness on the road) I'll speed past and wave again.

Success rate: 0/3

The flash
No, not that kind of flash. I mean with the headlamps. You normally don't see flashing headlamps in NoVA unless you're being tailgated or ::cough cough:: pulled over for speeding.

Success rate: 0/1

The coast and honk
Like the coast technique above, but with the added MINI "meep meep" double honk.

Success rate: 1/2

So ... is it just the area, or am I going about it all wrong? I read in another part of this board about the "Mini flash" done by classic Mini owners and some MINIs.

Does anyone have more positive experiences trying to say hello to each other on the road?

Why?? wheres the fun in that.. **hides the tire iron used to loosen paddy lug nuts**.. but ok true i could try.. After all. all i need to get people to notice me is either Rev the engine a bit or turn up the radio. Just dont make me have to come up there this Sunday for the Brunch to do a surprise visit and show Doc why thats all i need to do.

funny, you live around the corner from us, and I'm in your area a bit...where do you commute around to?

Hubby waves to everyone and they usually act like they suddenly can't see us.

no one's gonna shoot you, unless you try to cut them off...

notice there are tons of MINIs around here?

have you checked out www.dcmetrominis.org yet?

Hey MoonPie!

I commute to 123 >> 66 >> 495 >> 270 >> MD. I was in Arlington tonight and saw a dark blue metallic Cooper S ... and no wave!! Gah!

Maybe it's the mostly shaved head that scares people. To be fair, I've only had the MINI for two weeks. You're right though, there are more than a few MINIs about and I would have expected at least a nod or something.

I guess the only other thing I can think of is that I'm in commuter traffic most of my drive time. I guess people are a little fixated on their daily grind

IRT DC Metro MINIs, I sent them my check this week!

You coming to the brunch on Sunday? Brunch and drive that Jen put together? Would be nice to meet and welcome you in!!!

Watch for those potholes back on Lawyers and Hunter Mill!

I'll wave at you if I see you on 496, 66 or 123! (i don't get to MD very often)

I'll be there! I will probably be running solo. I think my car might turn 1,000 by then. It would be funny to finish my break-in during the run

I have a MINI2 sticker on order and I'll put that in my back window so maybe that will make for easier identification!

MP can't handle the rustic ways of Marylanders. She can't find a good place to eat in Bethesda; can't find shopping in Rockville; can't find a boat in Annapolis; and completely misses a baseball game in Baltimore. Frankly, I think the locals are tired of showing her how to cross the bridge BACK into NoVA.

Hugs,
PB

So, Paddy you bringing Krispy Kremes Sunday Morning or WHAT?

Sheesh we're not talking about Miami-Dade County Florida here... Virginian's really don't need a Visa and Passport to enter Maryland, now Marylander's coming to Virginia... Well that's a different story!!!

I will, if I get enough responses from the starving masses of MINI drivers & navigators.

Just let me know by Saturday evening what type and how many to pick up.

Here is a link to help in the decision process http://www.krispykreme.com/varieties.html

Bethesda is in MD?

I think Virginia should take command of Maryland, puny little state...then I won't ever get lost
