Yellow Cooper Burgers and Ice Cream evening MINI run...

Greetings,
I've been discussing (with DC Metro MINIs board) a new idea for a short, late afernoon/evening MINI event to be held sometime in the future. I'd like opinions about the idea and to see how many people and MINIs might attend.

A little background... a while back, we did a MINI run from Alexandria, VA to Fredericksburg, with a stop for lunch and a stop at Carl's Ice Cream, a somewhat famous place with really good soft/serve icecream.

I was riding my scooter down in south Alexandria the other day when I came across a FIve Guys burger place. It's highly rated in Zagats, and having tasted one of their burgers, I have to admit, cheap and tasty.

So, my thought is this, a Saturday evening, or possibly Sunday evening, shined up and perky MINIs all meet at Five Guys for burgers. (We'd arrange for a portion of their ample parking lot to be reserved for MINIs only) Then having ad our fill of burgers, we'd take a quick ride via some twisties near Occaquan, through Woodbridge, onto I95 for a bit and finally into historic downtown Fredericksburg for desert at Carls. The event would likely start at 5:30 - 6:30pm, with an hour or so of MINI parking, burger eating and generally shaking up Hybla Valley with so many MINIs appearing in one spot. As the sun set, we start our journey, which would be a short tour, perhaps an hour, maybe a little more, to Carls. No dates set yet, but if interest is high enough, I would like some volunteers to help test the route and of course the burgers...
Thanks!

I'd come out for this. Either night would work for me.

And thanks for the info about the ice cream!! I've been looking for good soft-serve since I left NY!

Oh, and Five Guys? Best. Burger. EVER. (And their fries rock too!)

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Carl's ice cream . For those who don't know about Carl's, it's GOOOOOD stuff!

I think I met you guys in F'burg last year and it was a fun time.

I can make it almost any Saturday or Sunday except May 1, 2 as I'll be out of town (unfortunately, non-Dragon related ).

BTW, there's also a Five Guys in Woodbridge (on Rt. 1) with an even bigger parkng lot. The S. Alexandria lot gets to be pretty full around meal times!

Yeah, I'm down for whatever. Seems prior engagements/events keep interfering with runs/meetings (with no end in sight), but I sure wouldn't mind meeting a few of you folks for the first time. Still very new to the area, and we'd like to get our Minis out and about.

I'd love to go depending on which weekend it was. I have never been to Carls or Five Guys (although I have heard of Five Guys). The Woodbridge one Paul mentioned sounds good...isn't Woodbridge near all those outlets? Ikea? Sorry....shopaholic.

Coming soon to a road near you!

Even though I just made the move from Oakton to Maryland I might be up for it. There are some people posting in this thread I haven't met from the last two DC Metro MINI events, so it'd be worth coming out just for the chitter-chatter.

Uh huh! 5 Guys is about 5 minutes away! Haven't been to Woodbridge for a couple of months, but when stocking my apartment, it seemed like every other week I was down there buying some friggin' stange IKEA lamp, or dish set, or dresser, or... And if not there, I also spent an inordinate amount of $ at the local computer geek store, mall, etc...

BTW, the 5 guys in S. Alexandria is just about 5 - 10 mins away from Ft. Belvoir! If you're into big, greasy, sloppy burgers (McD lovers need not apply!), I definitely recommend checking them out! Just try and go with someone who has been there before. There's a bit of a learning curve! You'll understand once you finally go!

------------------

Did some 'recon' on Carl's! Gooooood stuff! Just about as good as NY / Jersey Shore ice cream stands! The 'old skool' electro-freeze frozen custard machine is a very nice touch! Although when my brother wanted to go with me, he didn't realize that it was an hour long trip! Oh well, I let him drive on the way back. He was happy!

-Paul!

Paul--I'll have to see if I can get off base one of these days for lunch. Usually when I'm there I get worked to death and only have time to grab something at the cafeteria.

Y'all have a rough idea of when this experience will take place? I definitely don't want to miss out on Carl's...
