Question Greetings from an MCS wannabe owner =D

Hello to all here in the MW forum. My name is Mike R. aka mykr. aka mykrrrr and I just moved back to SE MI from Chicago.

I'm strongly considering getting a new MINI when I sell my house to replace my current Subaru Impreza 2.5RS and wanted to ask MINI owners what they thought about a few options.

1) Karman Hardon stereo - Is it really worth the $550??? I'm not looking to blow the doors off the person next to me playing 50 Cent or Metallica (two bands I don't care for... )

Is it worth the extra $$$ or can I find a better aftermarket stereo??? I'd probably get some sort of CD changer or break down and get a damn iPod for extra music capacity.

2) Anyone in SE MI deal w/Motor City Mini??? I'm not opposed to going far to get the best deal I can. Are there any dealers that will sell an MCS @ invoice or just above??? I will be paying cash for this vehicle and obviously want to get the most out of my harned earned dough.

3) Is the Works package really worth the extra expense??? To me, it doesn't seem like that great of a deal but does anyone have any real world experience w/it???

4) What's the typical wait time from order to delivery???

5) Anyone install a remote starter on the MCS yet??? I know a friend who does it on Subaru 5 spds but not sure if anyone has attempted it on an MCS.

Anyway...I'll stop w/all the questions eventhough I've got a million more and just say that I hope to be joining the MINI cult again soon...I used to own a 1960 Austin Mini and besides being a bondo bucket it was fun.

cheers!

Welcome to MINI2!

I live in Chicago and am awaiting delivery of my MINI Cooper S which should arrive next week. I didn't have to wait to order my car (At Knauz MINI in Lake Bluff, the wait is ten weeks and they sell at MSRP). They had the exact same spec car I wanted in production. So, instead of waiting ten weeks, I only have to wait about four! I'm sure you can find a car close to the way you want it either on the lot or on order already. At Knauz there were about four MCS on the lot when I went. Look around and you may find what you are looking for! Good luck in your search.

btw, I have never heard of remote starters for cars with manual transmissions. Sounds great, but how does it work?

You just have to find the neutral indicator wire for the car and wire it in so it will start when it's in neutral. Alot of my Subaru friends have this type of remote start on their cars.

I'm going to the local MINI dealer this Friday to see what they've got and if we can work something out for early Jan '04.

I'm already looking into mods for this damn thing and I don't even have it ordered yet...

cheers!
