I would love to go too. But I have a warning!!!!! Everyone seems to be concerned about when the park opens for the seaon. I don't know but the opening of this ride may not be the same as the opening of the park. So the real question is and should be - When does this ride open??? Does the park say the ride will be ready on opening day of the park?? My guess is that if asked - the park would not have an answer. The construction and then testing of these rides can be quite a process and they may not be able to be sure that it will open on any certain date. I am no expert on amusement parks or rides but I did make that mistake once with a small park near my home. Being near my home it was no big deal but a new ride that they announced did not open until months after the park opened. Maybe this was an isoloated case but I felt the need to warn here because I could see a lot of people making long distance travel plans only to find that the ride isn't open on opening day of the park.

Good heads up, man. The Mini ride is just one of many rides they have, of course. I am deffinitly all for finding out when the itallian job ride specifically will be ready, but even if it's not ready when we go there, I don't think we'd be at a complete loss as we can still all have a good time, right?

I think they've announced the first day, sometime in May but don't quote me on it. I think it is floating around on this forum somewhere but I am too lazy to go look for it.

Anyway, will find out for sure at NAIAS in a couple weeks.

Cool Ride opens...?

That is very true, about asking when the ride itself opens.
Having grown up in Dayton, and going to King's Island many times, I know that some rides didn't open on Opening Day. Not that this will be the same, but if anyone else grew up at KI in the 80s, you'll remember the ride The Bat was ALWAYS closed for repairs.
I'm in Ironton, OH, while my husband is in Iraq. We're meeting in Europe at the end of May for his 2 weeks leave, that's the only thing I have planned. I definitely will be there for the opening of the ride if it's not the 2 weeks I'll be in Italy, on my own Italian Adventure!

Whenever anyone has the lowdown on this potentially-awesome (a.k.a. "bangin") event, give us the news!!!

"Hopefully May"

I called PKI and asked. The woman said "all we have been told is Spring 2005, so hopefully May." This is a good thing, imo, I was kinda dreading the first day rush.

Flyer from PKI

little Cincy magazine addition in Ohio Magazine, gaives opening dates for King's Island but no specific date on Italian Job ride. Park opens Mem Day Weekend daily, but weekends only in April I think. Hope it's not May 20-June 3, I'll be in Europe for my husband's leave, he's in Iraq.
Father in law has seen something about the ride on the Speed channel. No dates for ride itself. I do want to be there for the MINI opening, with other owners, should be a good looking parking lot, full of MINIs!

Exclamation

OK IM BACK!!!!

Sorry for the long departure.
I contacted PKI last week about getting the details of what I planned with them last year, and am still waiting for her call back. This still plans to involve some sort of VIP parking up near the entrance and probably discount passes to get in the park. I am going to call her again today and I promise some sort of solid date by this weekend
My thoughts on the date for this, would probably not be in April anyhow, but close to the true summer launch around June, or maybe May. It will really be up to the park and what she has to say about it.
Also I think it would be best to meet somewhere offsite to come in together. It grabs more attention and it will be easier for them to park us all.
Anyone have any ideas of where to gather?

Again, I’m back! And updates are promised! Thanks for the sticky on this topic and the interest!

Just stumbled on this thread - I'll be in Indianapolis for the USGP the weekend of June 17th so my fingers are crossed that it's either before or after so I can attend. I was going to stop by during the week in any event to check it out.

I actually sent them an e-mail (King Island) telling them about the F1 race here in Indy... I told them that there had been a lot of buzz and speculation about the event and that if they didn't have any conflicts.. the event would be HUGE.

Maybe if a lot of people e-mail them... they will move it one week up or back.

I have lost contact with my person there. From this origional Thread.........
She has not retured my calls at ALL.

I think because of the update by this other group, they are running the show with their contact. I know there are threads on northamericanmotoring.com about that but not sure about on here.

I will let him be the person to tell us if they are going to get it moved a week.
I am out of the loop

BUT still ready to have a good time!!!!
