When wil the traveler be available?

Argh! I am in such a predicament!

My wife and I own an MSC (03 I think) and will soon be needing a second car. For reasons of practicality, this second car will need 4 doors/back seats that can be accessed more easily.

We're going to need this new car in June 06, and right now I think we'll get a subaru WRX wagon. But what we really want is the MINI Traveler.

Yes, I know, the concept looks kind of stupid, but I'm confident it will look less stupid once it's actually out there, and even if it does look stupid, it will still be a great ride (and it's not like WRXs look good).

I would consider buying a crappy used car for a year and then sell it once the Traveler comes out, but I'll only do this for one year, not 2-3.

So -- does anyone know when the traveler may be released?

The most likely launch date will be in the Autumn (Fall) of 2007.

So, it's time for a "crappy" car for 12-15 months. If you want a Traveler, I would suggest you, at least provisionally, put your name on the waiting list now; otherwise you could well have a long wait on your hands even after it's been launched.

Tigger.

My information says late 2007, but the official release says "within three years" I believe, it's here: http://www.mini2.com/article343.html

OK -- thanks. And also that's good advice around putting your name on the waiting list.

Talking to one of the bods at MINI Bluebell in Wilmslow today, and he was saying that Honda own the Traveller name, so they dont know if they will be able to call it a Traveller yet, it may well be called a Clubman instead, or so his sources in the Oxford plant were telling him!

I believe on internal documents it's called the clubman, has been for a long time.

Not that I ever see that sort of thing, obviously.

I wonder if, in these ridiculously P.C. times, it will end up the MINI Clubperson ?

Just been asked to reconfirm my deposit on the Traveller (or Clubman - think I prefer that - its more old school)...looks like they are starting to put a more robust ordering system in place for the 2nd gen cars now - at least at my dealer group. Will also have first deposit on a "normal" Cooper S as I think everyone believes there will be at least 12 months between the two.

Stated on here a few times it will go across the range, for the S, the last I knew, the split exit exhaust (as per the concept) was still on the cars (has been the plan for a long time).

As far as I know, yes, but actually I'm not 100% on that.

You're not alone out there, mate!

My early '03 S just turned 100+ K miles & I've not had it even 4 full years yet! I have to say it's holding up very well indeed but I'm VERY ANXIOUS to see the Traveller / Clubman for real. I know I could use the extra space in back to good advantage.

If there's word whether the S version will come later TELL ME NOW so I can be prepared to wait past September '06 ....
